Pittsburgh CREATES is a University based surgical innovation center that collaborates closely with industry. The target customers for CREATES are medical device companies that supply surgical products, medical robotics systems, telemedicine systems, and infrastructure software that is specific to surgical practice. This position provides operations support for the CREATES organization.
This position will manage both internal and external resources to ensure that CREATES' services are delivered efficiently and effectively. The position reports directly to the Executive Director but will have dotted-line responsibilities to other CREATES directors and project teams, assuring quality and timely delivery of services to industry partners and customers. This position requires an understanding of industry goals and norms, especially as it pertains to medical products, healthcare, and/or surgery. An entrepreneurial perspective and a self-starting can-do attitude are vital.
This position will have a major role in developing business processes and operating procedures. An individual who has had industry or clinical experience is required and prior University exposure is helpful. Responsibilities of this position: 1) Coordinates support staff, interns, facilities schedules, and resources pertaining to innovation and training operations. Uses an online software system to manage time and resource commitments to customers and stakeholders. 2) Manages the logistics for CREATES' on-site equipment, including scheduling, material procurement (project related), and setup and teardown of lab equipment for training sessions and usability studies. Establishes processes and checklists to assure ongoing smooth operations of all lab activities. 3) Provides technical support in our simulated surgery lab, including running and/or overseeing tests and experiments for industry projects. Provides support for project managers, as needed. 4) Supports business development and marketing by coordinating facility tours and customer operational meetings, symposia and other events, and providing support in showcasing our capabilities. 5) May prepare reports for projects, conveying technical and non-technical data, time, and progress information for projects. 6) Develops business processes and procedures associated with these areas of responsibility.
BA or BS degree in a technical or scientific field, combined with an understanding of medical technology, clinical support, and/or product development. An understanding of product innovation in these contexts is a big plus, since CREATES is focused on advancing surgical technologies to clinical/commercial practice.
