Job Summary/Basic Function: Position Summary: The Technical Applications Manager is responsible for the support and administration of the university ERP systems. The position will work closely with users in various disciplines to assess, train and assist with the implementation, support and development of the various solutions and applications. This function provides the means to apply technology to administrative problems and provides ongoing technical and staff support for effective and efficient data and process operations.
The Technical Applications Manager works on assignments of greater complexity and/or oversee the work assignments of other information technology professionals. The candidate will serve as a liaison to end-users and internal Systems Analysts/Administrators concerning requests, usage, standards, security and other development and production matters. The candidate will also be developing work/cost estimates for application analysis, design and development; including upgrades to existing systems. In addition, the successful candidate must be adept at working on multiple project and/or operational requests at a time.
Application administration including architecting, installing, configuring, documenting and maintaining the University's enterprise applications.
Interaction with vendors regarding software purchases, upgrades, patches, security updates, etc.
Manage and coordinate information systems problem solving, solution development, decision-making, knowledge documentation and participate in planning that will further the mission and vision of the current and future business environment.
Recommend and implement actions to improve operations, deliver a stable and secure solution, and achieve maximum performance for the enterprise systems.
Maintain current knowledge and application of contemporary technology related to enterprise systems.
Lead, manage, mentor, and provide day-to-day oversight of the Enterprise Applications Team including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning and managing work, and guiding the development of employee work plans
Develop and manage productive relationships within the Information Technology Services division as well as faculty and staff at Lamar University
Maintain regular communication with direct supervisor and other team leads to keep them abreast of specific issues and ensure individual team goals support mission and vision of IT Division.
Establish and implement consistent standards and processes across the team in areas of change management, integration, development, and quality control for release management of applications
Work closely with developers and business systems staff in the daily and on-going support of the applications, including the coordination of patches, upgrades and integration.
Work closely with users to ensure deployed applications are working properly.
Ensure application access procedures and security are configured, implemented and documented.
Implement and maintain appropriate technology through the design, development and support of enterprise-level services and appropriate system implementation, management, and integration methodologies.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of the features of centrally-supported products and how they integrate with the Banner ERP and other enterprise applications, coordinating vendor support, and working closely with other IT staff.
Position reports to the Sr. Director, Enterprises Services and has supervision of certain system administrators in the support and administration of third-party enterprise applications.
Support production critical activities during non-business hours, as needed. This may require evening or weekend hours, depending on the business cycle of the University.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in computer science, management information technology, computer technology, information technology, or related field and three years of progressively responsible computer programming and/or business analysis experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Technical knowledge working with the Ellucian Banner ERP system. Experience supporting Banner ERP as a system/ERP analyst, administrator, or manager with responsibility for application upgrade and patch management. Working knowledge of relational database reporting tools such as PL/SQL, Argos, Cognos, Business Objects, Crystal Reports or Microsoft Access. Three (3) years related supervisory or team leader experience. Three (3) years programming and/or analytical experience supporting complex applications including experience with UNIX, relational databases, and web-based application programming, with a demonstrated understanding of the security issues involved in maintaining and safeguarding institutional data required. In depth understanding of Software development life-cycle, including change management, functional and technical specification development. Knowledge of current trends, ideas and resources in the Enterprise Applications area of Higher Education Requisite technical skills to make recommendations on strategy and approach for continued high functionality of enterprise applications in support of the Universitys vision and strategic plan. Experience testing application software, researching problems and providing detailed information required to reproduce problems and/or verify problem resolution. Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple tasks, communicate project status and provide leadership and direction for the activities of development teams in achieving project objectives. Experience developing and documenting software installation processes. Ability to develop testing plans and manage the work of departmental resources. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Ability to think objectively and creatively, focusing not only on details, but accurately comprehending larger issues and being able to accurately and clearly communicate the relation between both. Excellent leadership and supervisory skills with a demonstrated ability to successfully manage a diverse group of employees through discretion, professional judgment and effective personal communications; Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and to work with shifting priorities and schedules. Strong communication, team and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
