CED is a multifaceted academic unit, with three departments (architecture, city & regional planning, and landscape architecture & environmental planning); undergraduate, professional graduate and doctoral programs; a suite of highly regarded summer design institutes; widely recognized environmental design archives; extensive computing and fabrication facilities; several administrative and student affairs departments; and a building with auditoria, classrooms, studios, labs, research centers, library, and a café.
The position reports to the CED Dean with dotted line reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Constituent Programs in University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR). The person in this position manages a moderately complex fundraising and communications program, a professional staff of 4 FTE, and is responsible for the full range of development and other external relations functions, such as events, volunteer management, and other marketing activities. The CED portfolio averages about 400 prospects a year including individual donors, corporations and foundations. CED has around 25,000 alumni and donors and averages 1,000 individual gifts per year. CED's annual fundraising average over the last few years is $5.3M.

•Manages a comprehensive fundraising program for CED. Conceives, creates, develops, implements, evaluates, and manages fundraising programs and strategies to meet predetermined goals and objectives. Oversees and manages the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors and prospects, using the CADS database and in collaboration with UDAR. Upholds University policies regarding managing prospects. Oversees the prospect portfolio of each of the fundraising staff. Manages all communication, meetings, events, and proposals on behalf of CED for each prospect or donor. Supervises gift administration and donor stewardship. Provides leadership, direction, and staffing to volunteer groups, including the Dean's Advisory Council and alumni volunteer chapters. •Selects, trains, manages, and evaluates staff and student assistants. Assigns donor and prospect portfolios to fundraising staff. Direct fundraising staff in accomplishing specific numerical goals related to campus fundraising campaigns. •Provides comprehensive budget administration. Coordinates with Dean and Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration on gifts, funds, financial goals, and reporting. •Manages external relations functions: proper use of the CED/Berkeley brand, all PR and media outreach including the CED newsletters and Frameworks (CED magazine), coaching the CED Dean and various faculty in external communication, and CED events. •Represents CED in campus and communications groups, such as Campaign Management Team, Frontline Fundraisers, Berkeley Advancement Community. Collaborates with UDAR fundraisers on regular basis. •Manages own portfolio of 30-50 prospects of major and principal gifts starting at the $100K level •Participates in long and short-range strategic planning.•Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to independently write clear and accurate communications for the Dean and (when needed) department chairs, directed to alumni, parents, and donors, as well as staff and campus colleagues. •Extensive knowledge and experience in fundraising, donor relations and gift management, including industry concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques. •Demonstrated experience hiring, leading, and managing staff. •Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera. •Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills. •Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. •High degree of technical ability with proficiency and understanding of data mining and data analysis techniques. •Highly motivated and detail oriented. •Ability to work under pressure within the context of competing interests, maintain flexibility and creativity, and adapt to continual changes. •Proficiency with desktop computing applications and fundraising databases, such as Advance or Raiser’s Edge, and Salesforce.
