The University of Missouri System (UM System) serves Missouri as the state's land-grant university and Missouri's only public research and doctoral-level institution. The UM System consists of system administration and four universities: the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the Missouri University of Science and Technology, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and all of their component parts, including MU Health, MU Extension and UM Engagement. It is important that this broad and comprehensive organization uses data-informed approaches to make strategic decisions to achieve excellence.
To collect and process collections, conduct research room services, and promote manuscript materials through outreach activities.
Accession, arrange, describe and otherwise process manuscript, photograph, audio-visual, oral histories, electronic records, and other research materials in accordance with standard and local principles and practices.
Assist in the appraisal of records and items within the collection.
Maintain an accurate and complete collection description and inventory. Prepare reports and statistics on work progress.
Assist in the development of strategies for the preservation and reformatting of materials in the collection.
Conduct basic preservation of materials such as cleaning and mending of damaged papers.
Assist in providing reference services to researchers.
Research, plan, and execute tours, exhibits, and other outreach efforts.
Continue education through attending conferences, seminars, and professional meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
General supervision is received from the Associate Director or the Senior Manuscript Specialist.
Functional supervision may be exercised over office support staff.
Master's degree in History or Library Science
Combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
Preference will be given to candidates who are accredited archivists and have archival experience in collecting, processing, description, preservation, and digitization of collections.
Demonstrates understanding of archival standards including EAD, MARC, and DACS.
Experience working with audio-visual materials.
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the history of Missouri and the Midwest
