Strategic Communications Coordinator - Georgetown University Medical Center
The Strategic Communications Coordinator supports a small but active communications team for both the Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC). Reporting to the communications directors for both centers, the Coordinator has duties that include but are not limited to:
Weekly Email Newsletters Management
Tracks upcoming events, news clips, publications, grants, announcements, training opportunities, and more for inclusion in email newsletters, verifying details with appropriate individuals as necessary.
Assembles email newsletters together in Constant Contact.
Writes announcements and brief descriptions of stories.
Assists in the editing and scheduling of email newsletters.
Internal and External Website Posting
Uses WordPress to upload content such as news articles and press releases to institutional websites.
Finds relevant photography and write photo captions.
Supports website redesign and keeps current on efforts to increase web accessibility.
Troubleshoots with colleagues in University Information Services as needed.
Posts press releases on Newswise and EurekAlert!.
Posts the LCCC Director's weekly blog.
Communications and Media Relations Activities Support
Writes articles about GUMC and events.
Coordinates photography and takes pictures at events.
Compiles and drafts reports.
Assists with media relations.
Escorts reporters and camera crews on campus.
Drafts press lists.
Participates in weekly editorial calls and staff meetings
Sends email announcements regarding upcoming events and meetings.
Updates and maintains email lists.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in communication, journalism, marketing or a related field
1 to 3 years of work experience in a communications role preferred
Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage/balance simultaneous tasks
Exceptional interpersonal skills and confidence
Ability to take initiative, work well independently, and exercise good judgment when dealing with sensitive information
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Editorial judgment, strategic thinking, and executive decision-making skills
Ability to support editorial functions related to new and recurring events
Strong time management and organization skills
Ability to prioritize and work towards short- and long-term goals
Willingness and availability to support occasional evening and/or weekend events
WordPress, photography and graphic design skills, as well as experience with Constant Contact, journalism and media relations
Interest in and enthusiasm for digital and visual communications, health and medicine, medical research
