Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Unit Computing Manager for the SC&I – Dean’s Office. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Information Technology. The Unit Computing Manager (UCM) is responsible for end-user support and system administration for the School of Communication and Information (SC&I).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides users with assistance on hardware, software, printing, wireless, operating systems, and local area network support issues within a heterogeneous computing environment including Windows, Mac, and Linus/Unix local and cloud environments.
Works as part of a team of IT staff within the school and may provide other IT staff with computer system administration and networking support.
Assists in project management, technology deployment, and physical and virtual server administration and deployment in support of instruction and research.
Develops, monitors, maintains, and supports complex server systems.
Develops, tests, and implements new services and service improvements.
Researches new technologies and services such as security and backup solutions.
Troubleshoots issues such as network performance and domain policy anomalies; conducts system imaging and deployment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Also requires a minimum of two years of experience in systems administration and/or user support.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have experience administering heterogeneous computing environments ranging from servers to personal computers; project management experience; and proficiency with systems administration techniques and tools.
Must have experience with server OS and software deployments for Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX.
Requires a strong background in cloud environments, virtualization, network storage, and system security.
Must be able to handle multiple, shifting priorities and deadlines.
Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
Experience in a higher education computing environment
Experience with networks, LANs, and network software
Experience with supervising lower level and student staff
Three years of experience in systems administration and/or user support
Platforms include Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Linux Operating Systems as well as AWS and Microsoft Azure.
Must be proficient with hardware from servers to desktops to laptops to tablets.
Must be proficient with a full range of industry-standard software that supports higher education administration, instruction, and research.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds for the purpose of moving computer equipment.
