Clinical Research Assistant (Exercise Physiologist) - (190000UV)
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Clinical Research Assistant (Exercise Physiologist) to work within the Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine. This position will function as an Exercise Physiologist working in a clinical research setting with populations diagnosed with and at risk of cardiovascular and metabolic disease.

Perform clinical research activities such as recruitment, enrollment, scheduling, exercise testing and training, and conduct assessments of physical function including measurements of body composition and nutritional assessments.
Collect baseline and follow-up data from subjects during research tests. Assure treatment fidelity. Checks and evaluates validity and accuracy of data, ensuring compliance a with quality control requirements. Perform basic statistical analyses.
Assist in developing and recommending policies and procedures and/or methods for the conduct of clinical research activities.
Assist in the evaluation of procedures relating to accuracy, precision, applicability, and test-to-test reliability
Perform administrative duties such as: assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for clinical and laboratory experimentation; developing protocol manuals, and data collection instruments; participating in field visits; and responding to requests and questions from individuals, institutions, government agencies, and funding agencies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Epidemiology, Sociology, Psychology or field of study related to the research of the clinic. Master's degree is preferred.
Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to the research of the clinic or laboratory, as appropriate, or Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with at least one year of experience in a field directly related to the research of the clinic or laboratory, as appropriate. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses a basic understanding of exercise as it relates to chronic disease populations, such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and stroke and able to perform position in compliance with all requirements/regulations/laws.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
Knowledge of statistical interpretation and data analysis as well as other word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software applications.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of subjects and information obtained.
Ability to network with and provide information to key groups and individuals.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to use a consultative approach to resolve issues in area of responsibility.
Ability to independently perform research activities.
Ability to participate in the design of research procedures and reports.
