The Office of Academic Affairs, Faculty Teaching and Learning Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has an opportunity for an Academic Innovation Specialist . The Academic Innovation Specialist (AI Specialist) is responsible for working with faculty and others to guide the planning, design, development and implementation of distance education courses at UMB. The AI Specialist is responsible for curriculum innovation, content design and for ensuring the development and maintenance of the highest quality distance education courses. In addition the AI specialist explores and tests emerging instructional technologies for use in an academic setting, and provides training and support for faculty to advance and improve their skills in online learning. The AI Specialist should be knowledgeable of adult learning theory, distance education pedagogical techniques, course development planning and project management. The selected candidate will ideally have previous experience with the Quality Matters course design and evaluation process, and familiarity with the ADDIE or AGILE approach to course design. The AI specialist should have knowledge and experience in writing instructional objectives that utilize Blooms Taxonomy. This position will help the Office of Academic Affairs/Faculty Teaching and Learning Center execute a vision for innovation in distance/online education and will effectively collaborate to create high quality student learning experiences.

Partners with faculty to update existing online courses to meet Quality Matters standards.
Coordinates planning, designing and development of course content and assessments for new distance education offerings.
Works with faculty, and peer review teams to ensure course design with strong alignment of course objectives, content and assessments consistent with Quality Matters standards.
Assists in the development and delivery of workshops or seminars to promote best practices in teaching and learning; distance education, curriculum and course design.
Manages the prioritization of curriculum initiatives and course development activities as they relate to degree programs implementation and quality assurance.
Supports the detailed Quality Matters review process of distance/online education courses to ensure that academic standards, institutional polices and processes are met.
Researches new and innovative curriculum and distance education practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Master's degree in psychology, education, counseling, or a related field of study.
Experience: Three (3) years of related experience providing educational skills counseling, training, instructional design, or other related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Outstanding communication skills-oral, written, presentation and digital.
Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve team project goals
Experience using Blackboard or similar learning management system.
Skill in continuous quality improvement.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in written and the online production of course materials.
Preferred Knowledge Skills, and Abilities:
Project management experience.
Knowledge of Quality Matters and Middle States accreditation standards
Knowledge of Blooms taxonomy for creation of instructional objectives
Experience as a teacher, trainer and or professional development instructor
Accomplished digital and software skills, for example:
Intermediate to advanced skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Windows 10
Intermediate to advanced skill in the use of the Blackboard Course Management System preferred
Hiring Range for this position is low to mid $70,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
