The Department of Epidemiology at the University of California, Irvine anticipates openings in the Postdoctoral Scholar Series. This research opportunity focuses on obesity and cardiometabolic disease under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Odegaard.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will have the opportunity to pursue research and publications on both the causes of abdominal adipose deposition patterns in post-menopausal women, and the cardiometabolic consequences of these patterns. There are additional research opportunities to be involved with interdisciplinary teams carrying out a randomized, multi-site dietary intervention; and research that aims to develop and hone new dietary assessment tools.
Primary Responsibilities: Literature reviews, data analysis, manuscript preparation, assisting with grant applications, and project management.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will also be encouraged to attend and present the results of their research at scientific conferences, participate in study meetings and interact with collaborative research groups; mentor and work with graduate and undergraduate students; develop and pursue their own research ideas; as well as develop and polish any skills and experiences that they feel will best prepare them for their career goals.
Qualifications: We are seeking motivated applicants with rigorous training and experience in epidemiologic methods. (PhD/ScD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field; or MD/DO with formal research training (MS/MPH/PhD).
Strong experience and interest in one or more of the following areas is preferred, but not required: Obesity/body composition, nutrition, physical activity/sleep, lifestyle, women's health, life course epidemiology, cardiometabolic disease (type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease), longitudinal data analysis, and causal inference methods.
Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on need and availability of support. Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
