1) The Benefits Manger provides high level analysis and administration of the University's benefits programs including, but not limited to, health and welfare, disability/life, EAP, FMLA, and other wellness strategy plans. 2) This position manages the processes and procedures to ensure that the University's benefits programs are administered in compliance with law and with plan documents. 3) The Benefits Manager also analyzes program experiences, manages renewals and bidding processes and develops recommendations in conjunction with the team for enhancements to the programs or processes. 4) Coordinates the implementation of any benefit or process change by effectively coordinating with internal IT, service providers, legal counsel, and other internal resources. 5) Collaborates with Benefits staff to ensure service and delivery expectations of leadership and employees are both met. 6) The Benefits Manager participates in developing the benefits strategy and leads and supports in the planning and execution of the strategy. 7) Researches and conducts in-depth auditing, analysis, forecasting of employee benefit programs including developing a comprehensive cost analyses and modeling of all benefit plans. 8) Maintains and analyzes various types of benefits information regarding University and appropriate peer plan performance. 9) Gathers and analyzes industry trends. 10) Participates in and analyzes benefit surveys as requested. 11) Directs project level work to the Benefits Analyst and Benefits Specialists. 12) Involved in escalated participant issues and helps set processes and procedures for the Benefits Specialists. Benefits Manager serves in an internal consultative role to the University on various benefit plan designs, administration and implementation, including HR Managers, Human Resource Administrators, Associate Provost and Associate Deans. 13) This position also manages the benefits team in the preparation on all benefit related communications for plan participants (current and former) regarding benefit programs, procedures, changes and government mandated disclosures. Assists in the negotiation of contracts, benefit plan providers, vendors, auditors and consultants for services, premiums and plan administration. 14) Maintains positive working relationships with outside customers to ensure the University receives appropriate service per agreed contracts. 15) Ensures overall legal compliance of all health and retirement plans to avoid financial penalties and potential lawsuits. 16) Administers complicated health and retirement plans in a complex environment with multiple constituents. 17) Identifies opportunities for improvement and increased effectiveness of benefit plan related processes and use of technology.
