Reporting to the Deputy Provost, the Associate Provost for Institutional Research leads a team of senior statisticians and analysts who will provide both external and internal reporting expertise for the University. He or she will be the University's key contact for and will coordinate the University's accreditation process.
The Associate Provost will serve as the central internal liaison for the office with other Harvard offices, provide evidence to the Office of the President and Provost (OPP) in support of strategic priorities, and provide analysis capacity to the broader Harvard University community on behalf of OPP. The Associate Provost will ensure ongoing review and shaping of the department's policies and practices to reflect the changing needs of the department's core functions, and provide leadership for the department's projects, programs, and reporting methodologies that support key stakeholders. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Focusing attention on critical research and policy issues by helping develop both the strategic direction and content for the department's projects, data governance policies and communications;
Serving as the key contact for the office with other Harvard offices and leading meetings as the senior department leader;
Enhancing and extending the department's influence by providing strategic management of partnerships, research convenings, and events, representing the department at local and national conferences and on committees as appropriate;
Supervising, coaching, and developing a team of analysts and interns;
Providing leadership to ensure Harvard's delivery of accurate and timely reports to the Federal Government and to key data exchange organizations;
Overseeing the development of Harvard's Fact Book;
Overseeing and guiding OIR's leadership role in the Analytics Staff Consortium by convening the steering committee, and working with them to determine programming, and to maintain and expand the membership of ASC;
Presenting the work of the office to senior leadership and others within Harvard and to external peers; and
In general developing and implementing creative new ways to support and advance the office's mission and functions and to ensure that OIR's work moves forward and is integrated into the larger priorities of the University.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
Advanced degree required in a quantitative field and 10-15 years of relevant progressively responsible experience in institutional research and management.
The incumbent must be able to influence and interact with individuals at all levels in the University. Excellent verbal, written, listening, and presentation skills are essential to succeed in this role. Must be able to build consensus among diverse constituencies and manage multiple priorities. Strong organizational, analytical, supervisory and project management skills required.
