Purpose of Job:
Serve as the leader of our Speech, Language, and Learning Program at Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center (CHSC), the region's largest nonprofit provider of speech-language pathology services. The director provides oversight of day-to-day program operations for a staff of 20+ Speech-Language Pathologists, including recruiting, retaining, and leading qualified staff as a cohesive and collaborative team, staffing outside contracts, managing restricted grant expenditures and requests, managing compliance with accreditation policies and procedures, development and maintenance of new and existing programs, managing expenses and revenues to achieve annual budget and anticipating revisions, and directing the Case Western Reserve University Student Clinical Training Program.
CHSC SLP programs include both center-based individual and group therapy as well as comprehensive school SLP services at a variety of regional preschool and K-12 schools. Our program expertise areas include pediatric speech-language, reading, adult speech-language, fluency, accent modification, voice, AAC, and additional program areas, as they emerge as community needs. The Director works closely with the other managing directors of CHSC to foster a culture of communication and collaboration across the agency. Other key relationships within the Agency that will require close collaboration include Client Care Coordinators, Marketing, and Development. In addition, the Director represents the Program and CHSC to the community, local and state legislators, and the CHSC Board of Directors. Most importantly, the Director will serve as an advocate for the accessibility of CHSC and Program services for the community to meet the mission, goals, and objectives of CHSC.
Major Duties and Expectations
Develops strategic direction, goals, objectives, budget (including fees for products and services), and performance measures of the department.
Fosters a culture that attracts and retains the most qualified clinicians to meet program needs.
Directs and manages all activities of the department
Oversees all SLP client cases at all CHSC locations and/or contracted sites
Assists SLPs in managing cases where there may be significant and/or multiple issues and problems
Oversees the management and implementation of the Student Clinical Training Program
Determines the pricing of services and fee schedules for contracts and in-house services in order to cover expenses, including direct and indirect costs, focusing on net positive margins, as possible
Provides staff leadership to the Medical Advisory, Governmental Affairs, Satellite, Strategic Planning and Oversight, and the Technology Committees as requested
Represents CHSC and Speech-Language and Learning in the Community
Master’s degree in SLP from ESB accredited program is required; a Ph.D. is preferred
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in SLP is required
Ohio license in SLP (or be eligible and have applied) is required
6-8 years progressive supervisory experience including project management (with budget responsibility) is preferred
Ability to effectively make decisions and recommendations and communicate with all levels of employees is preferred
Excellent analytical abilities, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills is preferred
