The Katies for Aging Research and Equity (KARE) Program at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time Program Specialist. This position is responsible for supporting management of a multi-year Research Education Program (R25) recently funded by the National Institute on Aging. The Program Specialist will implement the new KARE Program and will be responsible for ensuring cohesion among key internal and external stakeholders through an active role in program management, student recruitment, and student support, in close collaboration with the KARE Co-Directors. This student-facing position will serve as an important program liaison for the recruitment and support of annual cohorts of undergraduate KARE scholars. This is a grant-funded position with the anticipated funding through February 29, 2029.
Responsibilities: Program management • Assist in the creation of an academic program that meets the objectives of the NIAR25 grant. • Propose strategies and eventually manage community building, networking and career development events for KARE scholars. Program recruitment • Assist the Co-Directors in hosting and presenting KARE information sessions for recruitment. • Work closely with the St. Kate’s Admissions Office and local high schools to build relationships with prospective KARE scholars. Student support • Help students to navigate KARE program expectations. • Coordinate with KARE mentors and assess scholar progress.

Required qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM and/or health-related field. • One year of related experience. • At least six months of experience in working with underrepresented minority students, ideally within an undergraduate university setting. • Excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people from multiple disciplines. • Very strong project management skills and experience in grant management and sponsored research projects, ideally involving undergraduate students. • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the G Suite.
Preferred qualifications: • Master’s degree in a STEM and/or health-related field. • Familiarity with best practices for website maintenance and social media engagement (Twitter, Instagram, and blogging). • Experience using project management software, such as Asana. • Higher education experience.
