The Office of External Relations is a collaborative and entrepreneurial team committed to a donor-centric approach to development. External Relations is made up of major gifts, annual giving, alumni relations, and Donor Relations and Development Communications.
Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations and Development Communications, this person will create and implement customized and comprehensive donor stewardship reports. This includes researching, writing, and providing project management for a variety of projects that (1) motivate prospective donors to support the university and (2) steward existing donors by thanking and reporting on the impact of their gifts.
Primary responsibilities include managing and implementing personalized stewardship reports for major and principal-rated donors. On some occasions, the role involves writing gift proposals, white papers, case statements, website copy, profiles of students and faculty, letters from the dean, and event materials. The position may also assist in developing video and online projects.
Demonstrated strength and versatility across a wide range of writing styles and formats, and excellent interpersonal skills required.
Manage a portfolio of annual donor reports, including; researching and drafting original content a wide array of topics; composing written material for alumni, friends, parents, faculty, and the dean; and partner with colleges from across campus to editing content provided by other sources in order to adapt and repurpose as needed.
Laisse with internal and external constituents to understand the intended outcome of a donor relations project, then propose the most appropriate content and format for the goal and audience.
Identify, recruit, and interview students, faculty, and donors for development collateral.
Work closely with in-house design, communications, and video teams, to organizing raw content, incorporate feedback, and manage reviews by various internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with special donor events including the planning and execution of the Dean's Circle Dinner.
Implement programs that provide comprehensive reporting to donors, including: managing production stories, publications, and communications projects, and adhering to deadlines. Develop and track project schedules and budgets for projects such as the Annual Report of Giving, Dean's Report, honor rolls, and white papers.
Proactively monitor and manage the stewardship needs of donors buy building a complete understanding of each donor's involvement and giving activity.
Generate and maintain records on internal spreadsheets and databases.
Collaborate with development officers to develop and produce key stewardship deliverables, especially written (hard copy, email and online) content. May also assist with video production.
Maintain open channels of communications with donor relations colleagues across the university.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proven success in writing for publication in print, web, and other platforms.
Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner. Flawless copyediting and proofing.
Ability to understand materials of moderate complexity and synthesize across multiple sources to produce materials for diverse audiences.
Ability to change voice and writing style to fit a particular audience and purpose.
Demonstrated project management/production management experience, including working closely with clients and designers and overseeing complex projects
Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously with competing deadlines, coordinate the roles of various project contributors, set priorities and schedules, and meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse array of people, including senior leaders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with InDesign and Photoshop highly desired.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated sound judgment in situations requiring independent decision-making and in handling confidential and sensitive material.
