The Denver Post is seeking a skilled night shift digital content producer with strong news judgment and breaking news instincts who is capable of working independently to arrange the DenverPost.com homepage, section fronts and social media accounts with a view to strong early-morning reader engagement. Applicants should have experience assigning breaking news stories to a reporter, making editorial decisions for homepage placement, social scheduling and mobile app distribution based on web traffic analytics and an understanding of the types of content audiences consume, when and why.
The job requires the ability to write a fast, accurate breaking news story if no reporter is available and the ability to edit if necessary. Applicants need a broad working knowledge of news, cultural and sports topics and how they rank in newsworthiness and importance.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with reporters and editors to define target audiences and implement strategies to reach audience goals.
Work with teams to define their target audiences and identify and implement strategies to reach that audience.
Help teams identify their content mission.
Help teams create audience goals and be accountable to those goals.
Work closely with reporters and editors on team to help frame enterprise stories from initial idea stage to reach and maximize defined audience.
Train colleagues in all production practices, including CMS, SEO and social best practices.
Audit content to ensure every story meets our digital production standards.
Plan distribution for content in available channels, including newsletters, email alerts, mobile pushes and section fronts.
Take ownership of team’s social channels while on duty.
Study social media, other publications and institutions to find trending stories and topics to aggregate or refer to reporters.
Keep team abreast of the changes in search, social and emerging technologies.
Write or edit news stories as needed.
Complete projects assigned by manager on time and with minimal oversight

3+ years of experience at daily newspaper or digital news site
College degree or equivalent experience
Steady hand during breaking news events
Demonstrated passion for using social media to engage audiences and expand reach, especially on Facebook and Twitter
Strong knowledge of Search Engine Optimization
Deep understanding and focus on web analytics using tools like Parse.ly and Google Analytics
Self-starter who is eager to learn and develop new skills
Strong news judgment
Knowledge of digital storytelling tools, such as timelines, maps, crowdsourcing, etc.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, including editing, reporting or rewriting as needed
Ability to collaborate effectively with reporters, editors, photographers and videographers
Ability to effectively meet deadlines, work accurately and handle breaking news
Strong appreciation for the web, digital news and Denver community
