The Chicago Citywide Literacy Coalition (CCLC) helps Chicago’s adult education organizations secure resources and training so that underserved adult learners can become economically successful.
The Communications/Development Associate (Associate) will implement CCLC’s annual communications and development plans. The Associate will be responsible for timely and relevant communications to CCLC’s network and for meeting and/or exceeding CCLC’s development and fundraising goals.
Manage organization’s annual communications plan.
Run CCLC’s social media platforms, develop and implement a social media strategy that grows CCLC’s digital footprint. Ensure that CCLC’s programs and events are reported out on in a timely and far-reaching manner.
Monitor and analyze social media analytics.
Update CCLC’s website to ensure accuracy and currency of content.
Provide support to CCLC's Program Director and program staff on digital campaigns, materials and marketing for special events, and print publications.
Produce e-newsletters and other regular e-communications.
Control information output and respond to incoming requests for information.
Conduct research to identify articles and trending topics affecting the organization’s mission and work.
Maintain CCLC’s current portfolio of philanthropic and corporate funders by guaranteeing that grant reports, communications with funders and applications are submitted on time for renewal.
Liaise with program staff to articulate their program plans and outcomes in order to write proposals that reflect current efforts.
Maintain calendar and database of all deadlines.
Cultivate new philanthropic and corporate support through prospect research and relationship building.
Foster relationships with individual donors to increase revenue through CCLC’s annual mailing appeal.
Support CCLC’s annual awards ceremony, including securing corporate sponsors and donations, designing marketing materials, planning the event program, and supervising outreach.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for the transformative power of adult basic education and an ability to build relationships with stakeholders that translate into organizational growth. He or she will convey the issues of adult education and showcase the impact of CCLC and its member organizations. The Associate’s work will focus on highlighting the need of adult education services in Chicago and advocating for resources to support those services.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Bachelor’s degree with experience in one of the following areas: public relations, journalism, marketing, grant writing, fundraising, event planning or communications.
Possess a comprehensive understanding of modern communication methods with diverse businesses, non-profits, government agencies and individuals.
Strong cultural humility with an ability to relate to a wide range of communities.
Experience maintaining an organization’s website and coordinating and/or managing social media outreach.
Experience crafting press releases, newsletters, event planning, graphic communications, advertising, and other related services.
Experience with WordPress, Constant Contact, Canva a plus.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Spanish language skills a plus.
Excellent research, information gathering and interviewing skills.
This position requires an energetic and engaging individual who is detail-orientated. Experience in social media, program and project management, advocacy, and organizing is critical as well as an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while achieving outcomes; capacity for identifying problems, initiating, and implementing creative solutions; strong communication skills to promote outreach and relationship building that demonstrates interest in helping low-skilled adults achieve economic self-sufficiency.
This position requires availability during regular business hours and includes occasional evening and weekend hours.
