The Health Sciences Academic Services and Facilities' (HSAS&F), Scientific Instruments (SI) unit has three opportunities for Biomedical Electronics Technician Supervisor positions, which includes a BMET Compliance Supervisor, a BMET Systems Supervisor, and a BMET Training & Resource Development Supervisor.SI provides services that support patient care, laboratory and research equipment for University, state, federal and other publicly funded agencies. Services include technology management, regulatory compliance, preventive maintenance, routine or emergency repairs, and design and prototype development. SI is a self-sustaining unit. Major customers include UW Medical Center, Laboratory Medicine, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW Physicians Neighborhood Clinics, Harborview Medical Center and NW Hospital.All three Supervisors will have the same general SI unit duties and responsibilities, and will be responsible for directly supervising and overseeing the daily operations of approximately 6-8 Biomedical Electronic Technicians (BMET) each.RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise assigned personnel and oversee daily operations of the Biomedical Electronics Shop*Select and interview candidates; make hiring recommendations to Manager*Onboard new employees*Assign and schedule work of BME employees*Actively manage the timely completion of Preventive Maintenance (PM) Workorders*Review and approve overtime, leave requests and timecards*Conduct performance reviews and recommend disciplinary action*Model excellence in customer service and train employees to do the same*Use dashboards and other metrics to monitor performance of individuals and groups of employeesTechnical and operational support for employees and customers:*Review and approve routine purchasing requests*Review and approve workorders prior to billing*Resolve billing issues and customer complaints*Assist Manager in developing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures*Review incoming inspection records to insure the appropriate training, tools and scheduling are in place to fulfill the manufacturer's maintenance requirements*Represent Scientific Instruments on committees, during safety audits, accreditation inspections or other events*Evaluate, make recommendations and approve devices used on human subjects*Design, modify or fabricate custom devices, cables and accessories for use in patient care or direct and review the work of employees in performing these tasks*Evaluate and/or direct the evaluation of medical equipment involved in unusual incidents, maintains legal chain of custody and prepares documentation that may be germane in litigation*Assist the manager in preparing for rate proposal updates, including anticipating or recommending changes in staffing and collecting and prioritizing requests for major tools and trainingTypical Tools Used:*Basic hand tools such as pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, wire strippers, etc.*Power tools such as power screwdrivers, drills, soldering irons, etc.*Electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, function generators and power supplies*Specialized test equipment such as electrical safety analyzers, patient simulators, device specific test jigs and diagnostic software*Dashboards, spreadsheets or other metrics based monitoring systemsThe three positions' unique areas-of-focus duties and responsibilities are:BMET Compliance SupervisorThe focus of this position includes ensuring that the Scientific Instruments shop maintains compliance with all regulatory agencies and operates per safety guidelines. Specifically, this position would be highly involved with Environment of Care and Medical Equipment Management for this organization. Others duties include:*Maintaining a current Equipment Management Plan*Staying aware of alerts and recalls for biomedical equipment*Creating and maintaining shop safety plan and emergency management plans in coordination with HSAS&F department*Ensuring compliance with University of Washington's network security policies*Client Safety Audit walkthroughs*Manage medical equipment compliance documentation; including the creation and maintenance of policies and proceduresBMET Systems SupervisorThe focus of this position includes oversight of the units Computerized Maintenance Management System; availability of compliance reporting for services performed; ensuring dashboards accurately reflect shop metrics for leadership. This position will work with the department's Systems Administrator to ensure Scientific Instruments meet compliance and clients' requirements. Others duties include:*Validation of all biomed equipment information serviced by SI*Analyze and create balanced preventative maintenance workloads for shop employees*Prepare documentation of CMMS equipment maintenance tasks*Manage SI's internal SharePoint site to ensure current and relevant content*Work with Department's System Administrator to: obtain and maintain required internal and external reports; maintain CMMS database to ensure validity of data; provide customization of system to best meet SI needs as availableBMET Training & Resource Development SupervisorThe focus of this position to outline and ensure employees have the equipment and training they need to perform their duties within regulatory guidelines. This includes the planning and coordination of regular technical sessions for employees and clients. Other duties include:*Overseeing the assignments and completion of training and health safety requirements through the department's Learning Management System for SI employees*Identify and coordinate required equipment service training*Identify and coordinate required equipment necessary to complete services*Create and maintain the shops on-call roster*Responsible to ensure that shop test equipment is calibrated per regulatory requirementsThese positions provide leadership to all of the SI employees and operations in conjunction with the SI Manager. Supervisors participate in delivery of services, performing advanced technical services in support of the unit's customers and strategic mission. Supervisors are expected to provide a high-level of support for employees, have the ability to perform well in a demanding environment and prioritize competing deadlines to deliver on impactful initiatives. Supervisors are expected to leverage excellent communication skills, provide excellent customer service and build systems to support business operations. Additionally, Supervisors are expected to participate in HSAS&F department initiatives and be dedicated to creating a positive work environment. OR Seven (7) years' experience as a Biomedical Electronics Technician OR Equivalent education / experienceEquivalent education/experience can substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.Working Conditions:Generally good working conditions. Possible hazards include exposure to electrical shock, ionizing radiation, chemicals and chemical fumes, high-pressure gasses, infectious diseases, and other hazards encountered in clinical and laboratory settings.
