Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Campaign Manager is responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of Washington National Cathedral’s five-year comprehensive fundraising campaign. The Campaign Manager is a member of the Development Department and works closely with the Dean, Provost, Campaign Chairs, and other volunteer leaders to support and keep the campaign on schedule and progressing with a high level of momentum that engenders a sense of excitement, optimism and confidence in achieving its goal. This is a three-year, term-limited position with potential for extension.
Among the duties assigned to the position are the following:
Campaign Committee Work: Schedule and coordinate campaign committee and other campaign- related meetings and ensure supporting materials, including agendas and talking points, are developed, organized and disseminated. Attend meetings and keep accurate minutes and, especially, action items. Follow up with staff and volunteers on action items and provide support in accomplishing tasks. (30%)
Major Donor Work: Manage timely, accurate information transfer between senior leadership, volunteers, major gift officers and development services staff. Organize, support and monitor leadership staff and volunteer assignments and follow-up. Coordinate with other development staff, especially gift officers, to ensure that all contact and follow-up with campaign donors is coordinated. Serve as project lead for volunteer-led and other discovery and cultivation events, ensuring internal coordination between gift officers and development services team. In coordination with gift officers and stewardship team, draft donor proposals and correspondence, gift agreements and stewardship reports. Ensure data related to principal and lead level campaign prospects is recorded and tracked in Raiser’s Edge. (30%)
Campaign Management: Provide day-to-day management and oversight of campaign, including maintaining master campaign timeline, ensuring lead on a given task is supported and moving forward, and tracking progress against milestones and goals. Facilitate regular and ad-hoc campaign meetings and follow up, serving as point person for campaign counsel and CDO. (20%)
Campaign Communications: Manage development of capital campaign print, electronic and video collateral materials and coordinate their design and production. Create content for campaign webpage, e-newsletter and other communications. Ensure coordination with Communications Department on any public or media components of campaign. (15%)
Campaign Stewardship & Reporting: Coordinate with stewardship staff to ensure that every campaign gift and pledge is managed seamlessly so that donor is officially thanked promptly. Monitor and facilitate pledge reminders and timely and customized stewardship reporting to donors. Maintain updated list of naming opportunities. In partnership with Director of Development Services, provide regular and special reports related to the Campaign. (5%)
5-7 years of professional experience in fundraising with specific experience in campaigns and principal/major individual and foundation gifts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
This position requires work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
Demonstrated project management experience, with emphasis on managing up and coordinating down and across organizational structures.
Superior verbal and written communication skills, including writing, editing and proofreading.
Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skill.
Experience working effectively with leadership level staff and volunteers, colleagues, consultants and major donors.
Energetic, self-motivated, professional, flexible and adaptable with a sense of humor.
Embraces working collaboratively as part of a team environment.
Advanced working knowledge of MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel.
Proven experience in donor database software, Raisers Edge preferred.
