Job Summary: Serves as library assistant for the Department of Music, managing physical and digital library holdings, including making purchases, managing specialized subscriptions and departmental archives. Serves also as collection manager for musical instruments, including pianos, music instrument lockers, and coordinates their maintenance.May involve acquiring unique instruments for orchestra or other ensembles. Serves as back-up to the Music front office.
Physical Demands: Lift boxes up to 35 lbs, including awkwardly-shaped music instrument cases, or moving heavy instruments, such as pianos, on casters.

Minimum Qualifications: Working experience with electronic library databases and cataloguing methods.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Skills to read music.
Knowledge of musical instruments, music history, theory, music terminology and ethnomusicology relevant to the music library setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Skills in managing library budgets.
Knowledge of keywords in foreign languages regularly encountered in Western music.
Knowledge of digital notation software.
Skills in identifying causes of musical instrument malfunctions.
Skills in independent research.
Knowledge of performance rights as it relates to classical music performance, publishers, and audio-visual recordings, including limitations of fair-use doctrine.
