Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Specialist for the office of The Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration & University Treasurer. This position reports to the Project Executive within the University Finance and Administration (UFA) Project Management Office (PMO). The Accounting Specialist provides reporting and analysis support for day-to-day operating activity within the University Finance and Administration PMO. The Accounting Specialist regularly reviews, analyzes and reports financial information for all projects and address any deficiencies or inconsistencies.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists the Project Executive with building and managing budgets and financial statements. This will include regular forecasting and proactive action to ensure financial outcomes are as planned.
Reviews monthly financial results, analyze variances, investigate causes of key variances, and highlight inconsistencies. Work with project executive on corrective action plans.
Utilizes existing reporting tools to regularly analyze financial data within the financial management system.
Assists with budget preparation and consolidation of narrative documents and financial statements. Interfaces with project managers and other key stakeholders to help build comprehensive financial reporting documents and to prepare forecasts.
Performs proactive audits to identify discrepancies and variances, and carry out associated research and follow-up.
Performs other analyses and related duties requested by project executive.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
A minimum of two years of financial reporting/analysis experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced computer skills (spreadsheet, database and graphics) and proficient knowledge of all Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with Oracle, PeopleSoft and Sciquest Marketplace.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and professional interactive skills.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from department managers.
Capable of working with internal staff from other departments in a proactive and constructive manner.
Excellent analytical and reporting skills with the ability to present information in a neat, easy-to-understand format.
Team player who is willing to dive into challenges.

Financial reporting/analysis experience in higher education
Experience with Tableau software
