The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati is seeking a part-time Lab Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Theresa Culley. Dr. Culley's lab group studies the reproductive ecology and population genetics of rare endangered plants in Hawaii as well as invasive plant species in North America. The position is at UC's Uptown Campus in Cincinnati, OH. For benefits eligibility, 30 hours per week is required. Duties include basic lab maintenance, ordering supplies, managing undergraduate projects, supporting graduate student projects, performing DNA extraction and microsatellite analyses of plant samples, and supporting the UC Herbarium (including organization and digitalization of specimens). Public outreach is also included as part of the general lab group activities. Experience with basic molecular techniques and herbarium curatorship is required. The minimum requirement for this position include an Associate's degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- three (3) years experience. Experience must be in Biology, genetics or a closely related field.
The ideal candidate will hold a Master's degree in biology, genetics, or a related field; have previous experience performing research, an ability to work well in a group environment, and a willingness to support the lab group. The position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who is interested in gaining field and/or laboratory skills prior to starting graduate school or other work in the life sciences.
