Job Summary: Under general direction of SS IT Service Desk and Desktop Support Manager, provide advanced consultation, training, instruction, and troubleshooting/problem-solving to faculty, research staff, administrative staff, graduate students, and other affiliates across 30+ departments and programs for hardware, software, network and related computer systems, specialized research equipment, and handheld and peripheral devices.
Ensure operation of such systems for individuals and groups of computer and IT service users. Analyze, recommend, install, configure, and evaluate systems and tools for internal and end user use. Develop and conduct tests of hardware and software and report on configurations and behavior. Develop and provide technical documentation and training. Assess needs and recommend hardware and software acquisitions and upgrades. Supervise student employees and lead career employees in providing services described above.
Physical Demands: -Work at computer terminal for extended periods of time.
-Dexterity and ability to lift and manipulate server and desktop computing equipment.
Work Environment: -Work occasional evenings and weekends for system deployment, maintenance activities and project priorities.
-Occasional travel for training activities.

Minimum Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
-Working knowledge of desktop and business/technical support systems, and IT-related products and services.
-Experience in IT service management systems and practices to complete technical business/technical support functions, and to configure and customize moderately complex software.
-Interpersonal and communication skills to work with technical and nontechnical personnel at various levels in the organization? and to elicit and communicate technical and nontechnical information in a clear and concise manner.
-Experience developing and administering technical training to users at various levels of skill.
-Knowledge and experience using complex scripting languages.
-In-depth knowledge of server internals, especially as needed for troubleshooting and isolating issues.
-Skills configuring, troubleshooting and supporting end user client systems including desktop, laptop and mobile computing devices.
-Working knowledge of enterprise system functions, dependencies and interactions.
Preferred Qualifications: -Experience managing and using multiple Linux operating systems through scripting and management tools for both servers and end-user workstations.
-Experience with inter-operation between Linux and other operating systems for file sharing and remote access.
-Experience using the IBM BigFix endpoint management platform, including authoring content.
-Project management experience constructing and executing test plans for hardware and software? conducting hardware and software tests? analyzing test results? and producing reports of conclusions and recommendations.
-Extensive experience in use, knowledge, and troubleshooting of networking protocols and services such as DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, etc. and common networking hardware such as switches, firewalls, VPNs, etc.
-In-depth knowledge and understanding of divisional or institutional business processes to provide the highest level of support.
-Working knowledge of organization computer requirements, recommendations and policies including security standards.
-Skills creating technical documentation for complex processes and applications.
-Experience providing technical and administrative work direction.
