The Acute Care Research Unit (ACRU) at the University of Michigan (U-M), Medical School, Emergency Medicine Research is seeking a full-time Research Area Specialist Intermediate. The work schedule will typically be Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts. However, flexibility on weekends and evenings may be required depending on project needs. The Research Area Specialist Intermediate will work on two ACRU projects aimed at the intersection of acute care and public health. One project is focused on improving the continuum of care delivery—including pre-hospital, emergency department, inpatient, and ambulatory care settings for Michigan Medicine. The second project is focused on enhancing pre-hospital outcomes for cardiac arrest in Michigan – including for EMS, police, fire, and the emergency department. The Research Area Specialist Intermediate is preferably master’s trained with four to five years of experience in mixed methods studies involving the analysis of interview and focus group data. This individual is academically or professionally trained in qualitative data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and survey construction and delivery. In addition to experience in mixed methods, the Research Area Specialist has experience conducting research including, but not limited to systematic reviews and environmental scans. He/she will support the project’s environmental scan, literature review, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and results reporting among other research tasks as needed. He/she will assist with planning team meetings and weekly team calls, and will work closely with the project lead, the project manager, and other team members to ensure that daily tasks related to the project are completed efficiently and in a timely manner. Tasks consist of planning focus groups, qualitative data collection and analysis, and dissemination of project results.
Other responsibilities may include:
Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions.
May act as liaison with other departments, divisions and organizations.
Consults with users to refine or adapt methodologies to fit project requirements; collaborates in development of new techniques and instruments.
Performs data analysis and interprets results.
Depending on level of contribution to projects and writing of manuscripts, co-authors publications, and may co-present with Principal Investigator at meetings and conferences.
A Bachelor’s Degree and four to five years of experience required. This individual should have an interest in health services research, health policy, and health management; personal commitment to high quality work; excellent communication skills, both oral and written in the English language; attention to detail; an ability to be resourceful; strong organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to multitask and prioritize efforts; ability to work both as part of a team and individually while meeting deadlines; ability to operate independently and make decisions without immediate supervision.
A Master's of Science or Master’s of Public Health degree is preferred
This position may be under-filled as a Research Area Specialist Associate. A Bachelor’s Degree is required in a related field with one to three years of related experience required. A Master’s Degree is preferred
Please note this is a 100% effort, 1-year term limited position with the potential for renewal depending upon success in the role and availability of funding. At the end of the stated term, the appointment may terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
