BACKGROUND SC Ventures (SCV), is a part of Standard Chartered responsible for spearheading digital innovation across the Group. Ventures is a one of the units of the SC Ventures that oversees new disruptive ventures that are wholly or partially owned by Standard Chartered. PURPOSE
To lead and provide legal support and advice in the context of general requirements of the entire SCV business unit and to support ad hoc requirements relevant to SC Ventures.
- Act as central legal contact point for specific ventures as they progress and roll out to various target countries; - Lead and provide legal support on contract documentation with partners and vendors, such as Non-Disclosure Agreements, Letters of Intent and Collaboration Agreements, Software Licences, Hosting Agreements, Data Transfer Agreements; Proof of Concepts; - Coordinate and work alongside Country Legal on contract documentation and legal advisory support required for each target country. - Maintain oversight of partner engagements and vendor contracts and report of relevant information and risks; - Effectively manage external counsel; - Lead and provide legal advisory support on data, technology and outsourcing matters, cybersecurity, due diligence requirements, assessing legal risks of third party, non-Vendor engagements, regulatory engagements and product and customer value proposition development; - Ensure contract documentation for all transactions are compliant with the Bank's Group Contract Policy, material legal risks are advised to the relevant risk owners and appropriate dispensations, where required, are obtained in accordance with relevant Bank Policies; - Provide support in the development of new contract checklists, standards and guidelines, and refresh templates that will be relevant to SC Ventures; - Provide support to SCV Legal on simplifying and improving delivery of legal services to SC Ventures; - Provide support to SCV Legal to ensure SC Ventures has requisite governance and oversight over ventures; - Participate in SCV team meetings, and implement vision and strategy for legal support of SCV though good understanding of SCV and ad hoc support to BAU SCV matters
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Must be a qualified lawyer with 5+ years' post qualification experience and have:
A detailed knowledge of data, new technologies and commercial legal matters in financial services.
· Interest in and understanding of the developing regulatory Fintech environment; engagement of Fintech companies and implementing various commercial and cooperation models with third parties
Knowledge of banking industry with proven record of finding new solutions and innovative thinking; International experience of structuring and executing a wide variety of business ventures and projects in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Understanding of risk management techniques. Exemplary integrity, ethics, independence and resilience.
