Facilitate the university's day-to-day social media outreach on specific Chinese digital platforms and engage students and the community via social media outreach to foster conversation and actively listen to the social media community and regularly report sentiment. Responsibilities include the following:
Collaborate with senior Public Relations/Social media staff in the development of an effective ongoing Chinese social media strategy and continually update that plan based on emerging tools and trends.
Directly manage and monitor day-to-day media outreach on various digital platforms including but not limited to Chinese social media applications: Weibo, RenRen and WeChat. Directly engage students and the community via social media outreach to foster conversation, relationships and customer service.
Consult with and offer assistance to university schools, departments and groups in the ongoing development of international social media strategies. Research opportunities to connect with targeted audiences in other countries through social media.
Actively listen and respond to the Chinese social media community and regularly report sentiment.
Maintain a social media editorial calendar to ensure university content and key announcements are strategically shared on applicable platforms.
Develop and maintain relationships with Chinese digital media influencers and international news media. Pitch relevant university news to international news media.
Must have Master's degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or related field and 1 year of experience with customer service-oriented public relations, Chinese social media management, and translating written materials from Chinese to English and from English to Chinese. PLEASE NOTE: if education and experience requirements are met, candidates will be scheduled for a screening interview and a translation test in order to determine their proficiency level with Mandarin; their ability to translate from Chinese to English and English to Chinese; and their familiarity with the Chinese social media landscape.
