NYU’s prestigious Stern School of Business has an exciting opportunity available for an Assistant Director, Special Events. The selected candidate will plan, develop, consult on and execute small-, medium- and large-scale events that meet the strategic goals of the School. Serving as an events consultant to internal clients, s/he will conceptualize and plan a high volume of innovative events, receptions, seminars and varied activities for audiences that range from C-suite and senior executives to students, faculty, and alumni. The selected candidate will consult and facilitate event logistics, such as facility selection and reservation, organization of event materials, coordination with audio/visual personnel, confirmation of catering orders, vendor negotiations, supplier payments, etc. S/he will also evaluate success of events and recommend improvements both in terms of quality of the event, and cost reduction opportunities.
The selected candidate will have a bachelor's degree and 3 years' experience planning and implementing special events or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong customer service skills and the ability to solve problems in real time and juggle numerous demands are required, along with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Demonstrated project management, organizational skills, attention-to-detail and ability to work as a part of a collaborative team are also essential. Experience planning events within a large organization and/or a nonprofit environment, and familiarity with Google Suite and event management software is preferred.
