Specialist VI, Information Technology (Senior Cybersecurity Engineer)

As a member of the Information Security Team, the Senior Cybersecurity Engineer will, under limited supervision, use discretion and judgment to monitor network security events, configure/administer/deploy information security technology and appliances, and may assist with the design, development, and maintenance of security policies, procedures and standards.
The Cybersecurity Department is responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive cybersecurity program for Auburn University. The scope of this program is university-wide, and includes information in electronic, print and other formats. The purposes of this program include: to ensure that information created, acquired or maintained by the University and its authorized users is used in accordance with its intended purpose; to protect University information and its infrastructure from external and internal threats; to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of University systems and data; and to ensure that the University complies with statutory and regulatory requirements regarding information access, security and privacy.
The current Information Security Office is comprised of an Information Security Officer (ISO), a Cybersecurity Manager, 6 additional security professionals and student workers.
The primary responsibilities of the Auburn Cybersecurity Team are divided between the current team based on experience, need and the desire of the candidate to learn new technologies.

Entry into applicant pool requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and seven (7) or more years of relevant experience to include knowledge of IT architecture, project management, negotiation skills, basic vendor relations, advanced client relation skills, proposal writing, business acumen, persuasive communication, adaptability to change, team leadership skills, and quality assurance methodologies.
Cybersecurity firewalls and Web Application Firewalls for on premise network and cloud environments
Design and configuration of security systems including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and remote access
Monitoring systems for network server/firewall/network anomalies
Creating infrastructure designs and incorporates appropriate mitigation of existing and emerging threats
Identifies security design gaps in existing and proposed network architecture and recommends changes/enhancements
Information Asset Identification (Identity Finder, Qualys, etc.)
Vulnerability Scanning (Qualys, Nessus, etc.)
Malware prevention, detection and analysis and Advanced Persistent Threats monitoring
Security Incident investigations including Forensic Examination and Security Operations Center activities
Periodic analysis, identification, ranking, and alerting the IT community of emerging security vulnerabilities
Coordination with others to remediate devices/servers to University and compliance standards (PCI, NIST, FERPA)
Trains other team members on new security solutions and transitions ownership, where possible, upon successful implementation.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Cybersecurity Manager or the Chief Information Security Officer.

Experience in managing an information security department, technical knowledge of information technology, information security practices and advanced degrees. Experience with PCI DSS, HIPAA, NIST, and FERPA is desirable. Information security-oriented certification (CISSP or CISM). Certification must be obtain within six months of hire as a condition of continued employment. United States Government Security Clearance preferred.
