Reports To: Director of Marketing and Communications
Mission: To serve as the lead creative content writer for all enrollment functions, including strategic efforts to better reach prospective students; to craft and maintain narrative copy that ensures quality and consistency campus-wide in all written content for the web and promotional materials. To edit messaging for university leadership and develop messaging for university crisis communication. To provide oversight of institutional social media presence, initiatives, approval and activity while supervising student employees.
Marketing Objective: Craft compelling copy that communicates the distinctives of Multnomah in line with the university's digital and print marketing initiatives. A thorough understanding of Multnomah's brand messaging, awareness, engagement, as well as market trends, current technology tools, and best practices of writing that assist in promoting Multnomah.
Lead editor responsible for conducting final review on promotional materials, including correcting mistakes, instituting consistent voice, and adhering to AP Style.
Edit all outward-facing promotional materials for the university, including ads, letters, brochures, articles, press releases, social media content, and video scripts.
Prioritize Admissions, Advancement, and Athletics department support in editing and writing.
Write compelling ad copy for college guides, conferences, etc.as requested.
Assist with content creation, research, and editing as directed for digital marketing campaigns.
Review ads, emails, landing pages, booklets, etc. prior to publication.
Craft compelling emails for prospective students to promote university visit events and more.
Provide analysis of materials and their effectiveness: creating new text, re-writing text, proof editing, etc.
Provide editing to ensure proper grammar, clarity, organization, style, branding, and consistent formatting.
Regularly consult with Admissions, Alumni, Advancement, and other departments regarding ideas and messages for promotional materials. Customize content based on channel and target audience.
Interview students, faculty, alumni, and stakeholders for university stories.
Write compelling copy for key webpages.
Manage, approve and coordinate department web editors edits.
Research and implement best practices for increasing search engine optimization with blogs and webpages.
Social Media and Student Employee Team Management Objective: Provide oversight of social media channels, blog, develop vlog, working within the framework of the digital marketing initiative to advance institutional brand messaging, awareness, and engagement.
Develop and provide leadership to institutional content marketing strategies
Develop creative content targeted to various audiences through assorted social media channels.
Establish engagement goals/benchmarks for each channel.
Review, edit, and approve all social media posts.
Supervise student employees.
Schedule assignments in Asana and project manage with follow-up.
Support Copywriter & Public Relations Specialist in establishing engagement goals/benchmarks. Coach and mentor the Copywriter & Public Relations Specialist.
Institutional Communications Objective: Oversee key institutional messaging for all university communication efforts related to crisis management, emergency, and weather-related closures. Assist with the creation, editing and/or strengthening of key institutional communications as needed.
Communication and Administrative Assistance (10%) Objective: Assist Director of Marketing and Communications with administrative and communication support.
Communication Skills and Work Habits Objective: Maintain a Christ-like testimony in all aspects of the job.
Qualifications: Job-specific Requirements:
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Three year minimum of successful work experience in professional writing and editing. Writing samples recommended. Familiarity with AP Style preferred.
At least two years of higher education experience.
Bachelor's degree in either marketing, journalism, communications or related field.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
Skills in problem solving and decision making; flexibility and resourcefulness.
Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality; discernment and wise judgment.
Confidence to interface with external audiences, including individuals, businesses and other contacts.
Detail and task oriented; strong execution skills; efficient worker.
Ability to compose letters, reports and other material from general comments and/or thoughts.

Proficiency in SEO.
Familiarity with Multnomah and its ministries is preferred.

This is a full-time support staff position with benefits including medical options, dental, vision, life insurance and disability benefits, also paid holidays, vacation accrual and sick time all beginning the first day of the month following one month of employment. A generous Employee Tuition Grant is available after 1 year of employment.
