The purpose of the position is to provide creative solutions and implementation to all areas of the SC Johnson College of Business Marketing and Communication team. The marketing team supports the efforts of the college for recruitment, retention, awareness, engagement and reputation and drive the creative brand expression. The marketing group is responsible for a total of 16 programmatic areas, including undergraduate, residential MBA programs, executive MBA programs, and masters programs. As a member of the creative team this role provides support ranging from implementation of unique designs, messaging, brand awareness, brand implementation, ad campaigns, web visual support, photographic direction and unification as the student journey moves from awareness, application, student, and finally, entering into the alumni family.
This role will report directly to the Creative Director but work collaboratively with a diverse team. This includes areas of: alumni affairs, web and analytics, communication, email marketing, project management, social media as well as executive marketing program managers.
Essential Job Duties:
Ability to understand the "bigger picture" in a creative way, keeping in mind the mission and strategic goals of the department, unit and University; properly analyze, assess and respond to client needs.
Support the design and production of digital assets including online/mobile graphics, emails, static banner ads (animated motion graphics a plus!)
Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills
Excellent ability to explain and support your thinking
Deliver assets on deadline and communicate any issues far in advance to allow for problem-solving without causing fire-drills
Contribute stellar design skills with creative, timely, and bold concepts for marketing and branding projects with a keen eye for a simple, strong design
Develop and execute creative concepts and designs that meet brand guidelines. Update brand guidelines as they evolve.
Have a conscious approach to align design, visuals and message across all mediums, campaign efforts, and in alignment with the brand
Create mood boards, storyboards and visual concepts for campaigns, that may include digital ads, video assistance and social media needs
Create digital mock-ups and presentations as part of the MarComm team and effectively communicate to all stakeholders.
Expert knowledge of print and digital production and optimizing final files for delivery
Partner closely with all teams to identify problems and translate them into creative solutions that drive admissions metrics.
Create new design and photo concepts, maintaining a unified look across print and web pieces.
Collaborate with the Creative Director to develop new image concepts and assist in the direction of photo shoots as needed.
Ability to work in a face paced environment with changing needs.
BFA / BA or related degree
Must have 4-7 years of design and production experience
An online portfolio demonstrating your typography, composition, design, and/or illustration skills. Design must be professional and producible.
Expert level skills in Adobe CC: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive - Docs, Sheets, Slides
Working knowledge of project management and communication tools such as Slack, Trello, Basecamp, Quip, Asana
Ability to view work across media holistically and while applying brand consistency
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Solid understanding of traditional offset printing and digital printing and what the difference is to the final product. This includes but is not limited to: a deep understanding of printing techniques and options, paper sourcing, file preparation and ability to press check high-level printed material.
Understand and enjoy typographic, photography, composition and illustration principals and foundations
Able to take design direction and positively respond to feedback
Strong asset management and organization skills for file management
Expertise or knowledge of complex marketing campaigns, which can include digital marketing, email marketing, social media awareness and importance.
Brand development and expertise in the implementation there of.
Social listening skills and proven outcomes based on data. Basic HTML skills a plus.
Interest in photo management and organization of vast categories of images a plus. Experience working within a digital asset management workflow a plus.
Familiarity working with development teams (front end web design knowledge a plus for communication).
Experience working with digital marketing that delivers large volume of digital ads/creative.
Experience working in higher education a plus.
