This Applications Systems Administrator is a key central Business Affairs/Auxiliary Team member, responsible for effective provisioning, installation /configuration, operation, and maintenance within application life cycles. Recommends and may select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Resolves technical and business issues, identifies the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Leads the implementation and integration of all software and hardware projects for all Auxiliary Services departments. Designs, codes, tests, corrects and documents moderately complex programs and program modifications from supplied specifications to support Auxiliary Services applications (CBord, Micros, etc.). Implements and maintains software applications (Cbord, Micros Registor, etc) leveraging appropriate standard software development methodologies. Supports a portfolio of applications, researching patches, vulnerabilities and software releases, testing/applying software updates, and helping with the configuration of new features. Ensures software systems and related procedures enhance and support institutional goals.
Defines the needs, benefits, and technical strategy within the project lifecycle; technical analysis and design. Recommends and implements standards, policies, and procedures to achieve agreed upon service levels. Supports enterprise applications with a focus on security, stability, performance, and innovation. Implements security measures to safeguard information ensuring security requests have proper (system owner) approval (User account verification, maintenance, troubleshooting). Provides Tier III and Tier IV support to the main campus, College of Nursing and Northwest Houston Center for all Auxiliary Services hard hardware and software.
Install, maintain and administer applications independently and with ITS teams Installs, maintains, and repairs ID card computers, printers, and cameras in the ID Card Office for approximately 35 Mirco Registers. Leads the implementation of new register installations for all Auxiliary Services projects. Ensures PCI compliance for all cash registers and credit card systems.
Maintain proficiency, and acquire knowledge trends in information technology, application architecture and better practices regarding delivering enterprise application services to a university campus by attending conferences, seminars and classes, participating in discussions with colleagues and peer institutions.
Document accurately and effectively the processes, procedures and all changes to the system for auditing. Tests and deploys solutions in PVAMU Main Campus, NW Center and College of Nursing
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in an applicable field.
Five years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology or related Information Technology discipline
Five or more years of experience working as Systems Administrator or leading software and hardware projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of project management, mentoring, negotiation skills, basic vendor relations, advanced client relations skills, proposal writing, business acumen, persuasive communication, adaptability to change, team leadership skills, and quality assurance methodologies.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Installing and configuring software, hardware, and networks.
Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues.
Ensuring security and efficiency of IT infrastructure.
Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management.
Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms.
Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Additional Job Requirements:
Must be able to maintain a 24/7 on-call schedule to address system outrages.
Travel to the College of Nursing, Northwest Houston Center and other vendors as needed is a requirement for this position.
