The Cornell Feline Health Center (FHC) was founded in 1974 to improve the health and well-being of cats. Now the oldest organization of its kind, the Center educates owners and veterinary professionals, supports all types of research on issues related to cat health, and gathers information from cat owners, veterinarians, and lovers to identify the unmet needs in feline health. Its legacy includes the ongoing development of a feline health expertise core of world-class scientists and clinicians at Cornell University, a reliable source of verified information on feline health, an annual workshop to support veterinarians to stay abreast of the most current and relevant information in feline health, and the "Cats for Comfort" program to facilitate feline adoptions by people in assisted living facilities..
What you will be doing:
The Communications and Marketing team provides leadership and expertise in strategic communications and branding to raise the visibility of the Baker Institute for Animal Health and Feline Health Center and their respective scientific discoveries and accomplishments. The Multimedia Editor, who reports to the Communications and Marketing Manager, plays an integral part by using graphic design, videography, website, and social media skills. Tasks include create illustrations to help with articulating research and discoveries at the Institute, create short videos marketing the research to be used on social media platforms, plan/produce video shoots, photography, and assist with developing social media content. Working closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Multimedia Editor will lead the development of internally designed pieces, including but not limited to, postcard mailers, brochures, flyers, PowerPoint templates, and annual fund mailings.
Some travel will be required to attend face-to-face meetings and veterinary conferences throughout the year, estimated to be 5% of time or less.
What are the required qualifications?
We are looking for a Bachelor's Degree and you will need two to four years of professional experience in media production, cinematography, communications, marketing or related field - or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Effective communicator: you are able to effectively interact with staff, faculty, students, university partners, and external vendors, in writing and verbally. We also need strong interpersonal and organizational skills. You can demonstrate clear communications that thoughtfully projects a helpful, positive impression. You also appropriately handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
Multi-tasker: You are able to work quickly and effectively under pressure with an emphasis on maintaining discretion and sound judgement and use a methodical approach to planning and tracking tasks. Superb organizational/interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and conflicting priorities simultaneously.
Strong service orientation: We seek your ability to anticipate and diplomatically resolve issues by using your remarkable customer service skills. You are able to work effectively with various personalities and different management styles.
Affinity for technology and data: Experience using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, as well as other publishing software. Experience with storyteller, using websites, email, social media, and videos that connect to larger integrated marketing plan priorities. Proficient in use of video software, video cameras, studio and field lighting, microphones, and other media production equipment.
Proactiveandcreativeproblemsolver: You have the ability to work independently, take initiative, and accomplish tasks effectively in a dynamic team environment. You creatively approach and solve problems, using sound judgement and reasoning. Experience conducting independent research, judgment, and decision-making.
If you have all of these, great! In addition to these requirements, we would value someone with prior experience in higher education, script creation, video captioning and transcription services to deliver ADA compliant content, familiarity with executing social media plans, experience creating motion graphics and animation, photography/photo editing/videography skills, inbound marketing platforms, audience segmentation, proficient in using Final Cut Pro X or Adobe Premier CC, and After Effects and a passion for animals, but it is not required.
