Involves managing technical projects having a defined beginning and end. Manages the project's framework processes and methodologies involving departmental or cross-functional teams. Plans, coordinates and monitors scope, requirements, schedules, budgets, resources, tasks, risks, staff and deliverables. Monitors the project from initiation through completion. Organizes and leads activities relating to the management and completion of projects.
The Communications Administrative Specialist, reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, is responsible for keeping the Communications and Members Services Teams on task to meet the needs of members of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. The ideal candidate must have: - excellent communication and customer service skills - experience with common productivity tools (Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, One Drive) and video conferencing software - the ability to manage projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget and / or project team size
The ideal candidate applies skills as a seasoned project management and administrative professional with a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods, and relevant policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues. Understanding of K-12 and higher education, including assessments and Smarter Balanced, is a plus.

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium is a public agency supported by 14 members (13 states, one territory and the Bureau of Indian Education). Through the work of thousands of educators, Smarter Balanced created an online assessment system aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), as well as tools for educators to improve teaching and learning. Smarter Balanced is housed at the University of California Santa Cruz Silicon Valley Extension.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Requires effective communication and customer service skills.
Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
Requires ability to assess needs for icommunications and members services, and design services to meet those needs.
Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies.
