This Position reports to the Assistant Vice President Benefits within the Office of General Counsel and Human Resources and is responsible for the management, administration, implementation and communication of cost-effective and compliant health and welfare benefits. The Associate Director of Benefits Administration oversees and controls the activities involved in implementation and day to day functions of the University health and welfare benefits which includes: group health/medical/dental coverage/life insurance, disability insurance, leaves of absences, worker's compensation, and voluntary benefits. This position is responsible for overseeing a Benefits Specialist or coordinator.
Responsibilities: - Serves as backup to the Assistant Vice President of Benefits for all aspects of Benefits Administration and is accountable to the Chief Legal and Human Resources Officer in the Assistant Vice President's absence - Ensures efficient management, administration and communication of all employee benefit programs including: group health/medical/dental coverage/life insurance, disability insurance, leaves of absences, worker's compensation, and voluntary benefits. - Supports the Assistant Vice President in assessing trends on medical costs and innovative future programs by benchmarking existing plans with those of other higher education organizations. Participates in area and industry surveys - Assist Assistant Vice President in presentations made with respect to benefit trends and potential changes to the Benefits Advisory Committee and various senior management constituencies. This includes but is not limited to researching benefit trends and working with consultants on benchmarking other Colleges and Universities. - Assist Assistant Vice President in managing the University's annual benefit open enrollment process by collaborating with health and welfare consultants and insurers. Coordinate the distribution of open enrollment materials including updating open enrollment website. Work with the University's Workday (the University's HRIS system) solutions group to ensure all open enrollment testing has occurred successfully. - Work directly with the Workday solutions group to ensure that Benefits projects are monitored from an HRIS perspective. Collaborate with HR operations, payroll and workday solutions group to conduct testing when needed. Be the Benefits liaison to the group. - People Management: Set expectations and objectives for staff. Continually coach direct report to ensure exceptional performance - Support the Assistant Vice President of Benefits in setting the annual renewals and strategic vision for health and welfare benefits - Assist with large scale benefit projects, including but not limited to: plan implementations, health and welfare 5500 filings, SAR filings, OSHA reports, all other compliance related implementation such as NYS family paid leave - Manages ongoing auditing of HRIS benefit elections/deductions. Evaluates and audits benefit payroll deductions, runs applicable reports, corrects deficiencies as needed. - Conducts and presents benefit information sessions on a variety of topics, including open enrollment and new hire orientation. Responsible for all new hire orientation material and benefit presentation communications. - Advises and counsels employees on existing benefits. Performs exceptional customer service. Investigates unusual and complex cases and applies critical thinking and diagnostic approach to resolve and remedy. - This position is also responsible for overseeing the tri-annual review of part time faculty for health benefits eligibility - Assist with cross-functional Human Resources projects as needed
- Bachelor's degree required - Extensive knowledge of benefits programs with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience - Must have demonstrated and proven success with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the employee benefits field - Extensive experience with HRIS systems - Proficiency with MS Excel - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Excellent presentation, time management and organizational skills
- Master's degree preferred: SPHR, PHR, SHRM a plus - Experience with Workday a plus - Excellent presentation, time management and organizational skills - Must be able to be an independent decision maker and demonstrate comfort with making decisions in absence of clear and definitive information - People Management skills- proven ability to clearly articulate vision, experience and hold staff accountable to high standards - Demonstrated ability to direct and successfully manage a wide variety of diverse projects.
