The incumbent is responsible and accountable for ensuring an efficient and highly functional laboratory information system. This person will be proficient in project management, system implementation, system analysis, system testing & validation, system training, system documentation, system maintenance, peripheral hardware/network/interface setup & maintenance as well as related policies and procedures. The incumbent works closely with administrative and management staff from all health system entities to meet the organizational goals and objectives. This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of the programs, services, processes, and growth of Renown Health. The incumbent participates as directed in plans and implementing clinical laboratory systems for new and existing clients.

Renown Health Clinical Laboratory is a 24-hour/7-days a week operation, providing laboratory services to an inpatient and outpatient population of all ages. The scope of responsibility for this position spans all technical and customer services issues related to software, hardware, networks, interfaces and web based infrastructure to provide timely information to the providers of healthcare. This position will coordinate LIS monitoring, maintenance, software loading, network support, as well as PC, peripherals, network and interface trouble shooting and problem resolution.
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Systems Administrator will provide patient reports to physicians and other providers in a compliant manner as directed by regulatory and accrediting agencies mandates. Laboratory information is an integral part of the laboratory management which requires many types of special reports to manage clinical laboratory operations effectively, therefore, the person in this position must be familiar with SQL, MS Access, and/or other report writing. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Systems Administrator works collaboratively with the department members to ensure success of all programs. Database management is also a requirement of this position to ensure the integrity of the database as well as updating or adding new information. A large component of database management is ensuring appropriate databases are loaded to provide accurate order entry, medical necessity coding, CPT coding, etc. resulting in achievement of timely and accurate billing.
This position will share on-call hours, being available to resolve unanticipated system problems that immediately impact clinical laboratory operations. This position is professionally exempt and compensation is salary based. The incumbent must be able to independently make key decisions to ensure operational functionality such as initiating computer down time and recovery procedures when required.
The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide an error free system environment for patients served. The person in this position must understand changes in population reference ranges based on normal values expected at multiple age levels from infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric, and validate age and sex specific reference range criteria when appropriate.
The incumbent is required to meet operational needs as well as developing new and creative ideas that would improve or enhance Clinical Laboratory Services.
The incumbent must be knowledgeable of and observe all safety requirements in a laboratory and hospital setting. Comprehensive knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be performed. Competency in work related skills must be demonstrated annually.
This position does not provide patient care.
Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Medical Technology, or a closely related field according to current applicable state and federal regulations.
Experience: Incumbent must have experience with laboratory information systems and database management. Hardware and software expertise with PCs, laser printers, networks, interfaces, and web based applications preferred. Minimum of three years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist) is required, five years is preferred
License(s): A current State of Nevada Clinical Laboratory Technologist or General Supervisor license is required. Requires national certification for at least 3 years as MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
