Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) is searching for staff members to contribute their talents to our campus community. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications & Marketing, the Creative Services Director will provide strategic creative leadership and vision in order to deliver on department's mission to enhance, promote and publicize W&J College mission. The Creative Services Director is a member of College's Marketing senior leadership team. S/he is a true collaborator with a proven track record of leading the development of impactful, strategically focused creative marketing/communications and teams. The Creative Director is responsible for the creative expression of the W&J brand across digital media, print media, applications and institutional platforms. S/He will inspire and mentor a small team of creative marketing professionals, as well as third-party agencies and contractors providing creative guidance and direction. S/he will work closely with the College's Enrollment Management, Alumni Relations and Development, Athletics and Student Life to support the ongoing creative needs of the College's platforms and programs that engage key external audiences in the enduring value proposition, ideals and pursuits of W&J College; this includes the College's brand guidelines, website and affiliated websites, social media, digital and print advertising, campus communications, and enrollment marketing.
This position requires experience working as part of an integrated team, serving multiple clients, basic process and project management skills, the ability to understand, support and help develop complex creative and communications strategies, and current fluency in best practice for communications and marketing creative work including design, distribution and visual effect. Knowledge of current industry trends and techniques, including video production, interactive and user experience design, and other digital communications approaches. Excellent presentation skills, and the capacity to represent the department and its work to executive leaders are essential.
Oversees and manages all design and visual identity for W&J College, to include oversight of print and online materials, advertising, website, social media and technology platforms, marketing campaigns, brand identity, and logos:
Directs all creative projects undertaken by the Office of Communication & Marketing and manages conceptual, creative, design and production work including integrated marketing campaigns, print and digital design and production, graphic design, multimedia presentations, photography/videography, and special projects;
Ensures best practices and stays current on industry trends for brand management and strategy, reviews logo and color usage for compliance with overall marketing and branding guidelines;
Evaluates content, design and photography of all marketing campaigns and initiatives including enrollment marketing, alumni relations & development, athletics, retail, and student life to ensure consistent quality and integrity of communications;
Manages relationship with third-party agencies, vendors, independent consultants & contractors, and affiliated departments
Works with the Vice President of Communication & Marketing to create, disseminate, educate and maintain a comprehensive guide to visual identity standards, to include logo(s) usage and preferred fonts, colors, photography and design elements.
Serves as lead writer, editor and designer on major and priority projects, and provides art direction and guidance to internal departments, third-party agencies, and contractors.
Manages all creative campaigns, projects and tasks to ensure quality and timely production of all print, digital, advertising and multimedia materials. Provides direction for project planning and implementation;
Directs project management, including developing efficient systems and effective guidelines for project intake, flow and completion;
Oversees the support of internal projects such as employee communications, campus and faculty announcements and e-newsletters; and attends functions/events that may require evenings and weekends.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, or related field;
Minimum of 7 years of experience preferably in an agency or non-profit setting;
Prior management/supervisory experience with a minimum of 5 years in leading teams;
Demonstrated experience in leading branding initiatives, brand standards, and brand management;
Demonstrated experience including but not to digital design, multimedia platforms, retail/PoS, and email, as well as iconography, illustration, and infographics;
Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, inDesign, XD, After Effects, Illustrator);
Experience with usability testing and building prototypes a plus;
High-degree of proficiency of MS Office Suite, Outlook and Internet applications;
Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (conception to completion) and planning skills;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues' campus-wide;
Ability to work independently, as well as a team, in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment;
Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting;
Master's degree in graphic design, marketing or related field
Extensive experience in leading new brand initiatives and brand management
More than 7 years experience in leading teams and third-party agencies
