General Statement of Duties: ReImagine North of Main (RNoM) is grant funded collective-impact initiative, led by a Leadership Team of: Fitchburg State University, City of Fitchburg, Fitchburg Art Museum, Minority Coalition of North Central Massachusetts, Montachusett Opportunity Council and NewVue Communities. We are seeking an organized, dynamic, and energetic professional to support Fitchburg’s Main Street efforts to generate foot traffic and increase the number of viable businesses on Main Street. This person will be responsible for event management, marketing and communications related to our work in downtown Fitchburg.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate Main Street events, fundraising initiatives, and volunteer management and recruiting in collaboration with businesses and community stakeholders to enhance Main Street activities, including but not limited to: Events and programming on Mill Street, Fitchburg Farmer’s Market, Trick or Treat on Main Street, Main Street Live, Civic Days, Shop Small Saturday and Memories on Main St.
Coordinate joint promotional events with downtown businesses, such as seasonal festivals, sidewalk sales, etc., with the goal of improving the quality and excitement of events to attract people downtown.
Assist in the development of a shared, cohesive brand strategy for Main Street/downtown events and collaborate with partners on social media, print and website advertising.
Identify events and marketing opportunities that further support Fitchburg as an “Arts and Culture” destination with a college town vibe.
Identify opportunities for small businesses to participate in and lead downtown events.
Work with existing committees to secure entertainment, bands, and food vendors needed for each event.
Attend event committee meetings, take notes and prepare minutes’/action items
Create and manage marketing plans for each event including press releases, social media campaigns, posters & flyers, radio/tv appearances, paid advertising etc.
Be a direct link to downtown businesses regarding events and downtown promotions.
Project Management and Other Activities:
Track services, participation and outcomes as part of program evaluation, in accordance with various funding requirements.
Maintain comprehensive calendar of events for downtown.
Coordinate advertising and publicity about downtown and the ReImagine North of Main program and the MassDevelopment TDI initiative.
Assist with filing special events permits, liquor and food service permits as needed
At least 3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: marketing & communications, event management, arts & cultural support. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred with related experience, however 2 to 4 years of documented work experience in related fields may be considered in lieu of degree.
Must be available evenings and weekends as needed.
Experience in event planning and volunteer coordination.
Basic graphic design skills are strongly desired.
Strong project management skills, ensuring all projects/events are delivered on time, within scope and on budget.
Must be a team player and collaborate with other members of the RNoM and TDI teams, business owners, city officials/staff, stakeholders and residents.
Passion and optimism needed to market downtown Fitchburg to the outside community.
Entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized and capable of functioning effectively in an independent setting.
Excellent organizational, writing, public speaking and meeting facilitation skills.
Excellent technology skills and proficient in social media, website management and data collection and management.
Spanish fluency a plus.
Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must have a valid Driver’s License and must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check.
