STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Workplace ESOL Instructor will develop and deliver a contextualized ESOL curriculum for workplace employees. The Instructor will be responsible for creating lesson plans that are related to the needs of the employer in order to improve English language skills of ESOL students, help them thrive in the workplace, as well as prepare them for employment or further educational opportunities.
Instructors are responsible for the overall operation and management of their classroom. Instructors are required to submit a course syllabus and complete all applicable course/program reports, as well as professional development plans. Instructors will work closely with education/career advisors on student attendance, follow-up, and assessment. They are also expected to attend professional and staff development trainings.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Director of Workplace Literacy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contextualize curriculum to improve ESOL employees' workplace communication.
Communicate regularly with company personnel (i.e. supervisors and human resources) regarding student progress and outcomes.
Develop, implement, and align curriculum with Massachusetts English Language proficiency Standards for Adult Education (MA ELS).
Integrate digital literacy into curriculum, including education
Utilize educational software and equipment as warranted.
Prepare and submit course syllabus and weekly lesson plans.
Evaluate the performance of students through administration of cumulative assessments and submit progress reports.
Participate in program development team meetings.
Utilize effective instructional techniques to create a learning environment that consistently communicates high standards.
Improve instruction by participating in professional development activities as budget allows.
Maintain accurate attendance records.
Work closely with advisor on student attendance and assessment.
Provide community and educational resources for employees and their family members.
Encourage critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills in the workplace.
If requested, collaborate with company personnel to recruit and assess employees for ESOL classes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Minimum of two years and ability working with adult students from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds in an instructional setting.
Minimum of two years of experience in ESOL teaching.
Demonstrated ability to provide individualized and group instruction to non-traditional students.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning processes, including providing distance learning opportunities for students.
Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching style and materials to meet the individual needs of students.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and team-teach, if necessary.
The ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
BEST Plus Certification.
Demonstrated ability to design and/or utilize blended learning models.
Experience teaching in adult basic education.
Curriculum development experience in ESOL and customization.
Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, grant-funded, non-unit, non-benefitted position, some nights and weekends may be required.
Non-Credit Instructors are part time instructors hired on an as needed basis. Courses may be offered as face-to-face sections in Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford, and/or Taunton. Courses may also be offered as online sections. Courses may be held during the day, in the evening, and on weekends (Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays).
