This position is in our Orthodontics Division in the Department of Developmental and Surgical Sciences. This clinic is a fast based teaching based clinic where Faculty, Staff and Students work together daily. The work schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8 hours per day for an 80% position (benefits eligible).
Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
-Chair side assisting with faculty, staff and residents.
-Take and pour up alginate impressions, trim models weekly.
-Take digital cephalometric and panoramic radiographs and digital photographs.
-Place and remove arch wires, ligatures and elastics. Remove excess cement as directed.
-Use electronic record keeping and imaging computer systems.
-Select and fit orthodontic bands. Assist in banding and bonding new construction.
-Direct patients in oral hygiene instruction; perform clinical crown prophylaxis as directed.
-Retrieve and file patient charts daily. Monitor retention and dismissed cases.
-Prepare units for procedures to be done each day. Includes distribution of sterile instruments and items according to daily resident assignments.
-Assist four or more residents while utilizing eight or more chairs according to the daily schedule.
-Answer chart, patient, parent phone calls and questions regarding emergencies and instruct patient home care and/or schedule appropriate appointment
-Sterilizes, maintains instruments and equipment in the clinic, laboratory and sterilization area.
-Maintain general clinic cleanliness.

Salary Range: $20.01 to $24.93 USD/hour
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
-Graduate of an accredited dental assisting course.
-Current Minnesota Dental Assistant License
-Knowledge of and able to speak to: procedures such as fitting orthodontic bands, place/remove arch wires, etc.
-Currently DANB Certified or eligible for certification within 4 months of hire*
-Current CPR certification
-Experience working with a diverse patient base
*Trainee position also available: Must complete DANB certification & license within 4 months of hire.

SELECTION CRITERIA/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-More than one year of orthodontic clinic or practice experience.
-Experience working in an Orthodontics clinic or practice completing procedures such as fitting orthodontic bands, place/remove arch wires, etc.
-Experience in an academic institution or in training or teaching others.
-Experience in a busy Dental Clinic or practice atmosphere.
-Demonstrated ability to work well in a team as well as independently.
