The Department of Pathology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking a Lab Specialist Intermediate. This position will support digital pathology and computerized image analysis research projects carried out in the Department of Pathology and in the Biorepository and Tissue Research Facility (BTRF), a research core in the UVA School of Medicine. Duties include the scanning of histologic slides on a digital imaging instrument, organization and management of a digital image file library, learning a suite of image analysis software tools to achieve proficiency with creating new analysis algorithms and performing such analyses in support of research projects. Other duties include other technical and administrative activities to support the functions of the BTRF and the Dept of Pathology (glass slide retrieval, billing, etc.). Interacting with researchers and educators in planning and carrying out research and education projects is a required aspect of the position.
The successful Candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a related science, Biotechnology, Engineering, or Data science fields and a proficiency with computer spreadsheet and/or database software. While not requirements, knowledge /experience of histology, statistical analysis and/or software coding will be seen as additional qualifications for this position. A minimum of three yearsâ™ experience is required. A Master's degree in related field may substitute for required experience.
