![]() House Technician, Frost Amphitheater and Bing Concert Hall Stanford University Job Code: 4372 Job Grade: G Presenting more than 100 performances annually, Stanford Live is the performing arts presenter at Stanford University and manager of Bing Concert Hall. Scheduled to reopen in 2019, Frost Amphitheater will also become part of the Stanford Live portfolio of venues, bringing a whole new scale of performance to the Stanford Campus. Currently undergoing a renovation, Frost will be a large capacity outdoor venue located next to Bing Concert Hall in Stanford's arts district. Frost will annually present concerts between May and October. Users of the facility will include a summer season with a major classical partner, a major commercial promoter, University presentations and events as well as the occasional Stanford Live performance totaling approximately 30+ events during its season. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Director of Operations for Frost Amphitheater, the Technician also has a dotted line report to the Stanford Live Director of Production. The Technician supports the efforts to prepare for and execution of each performance in the areas of technical production with a primary focus on the Frost Amphitheater season and Bing Concert Hall at other times of the year. This position serves as the technical representative for all external events at Frost which includes the review and approval of all technical advance details with Promoter/Partner representatives. This includes audio, lighting and video systems; backline; drapes and drops; staging elements and proposed production and performance schedules. Technician also assists in organizing and tracking equipment, providing support to users of each facility, special projects as needed and working all Frost and some Bing Concert Hall productions. Stanford Live venues are technically complex and require a high-level understanding of audio, video, lighting and rigging. CORE DUTIES: 1. Provide technical assistance as needed for all events in Frost Amphitheater. Function as facility oversight from setup to strike. 2. Partnering with Promoter/Presenter representatives and ensure compliance with Frost rules and Stanford policy and protocol. 3. Communicate to the Directors of Operations and Production regarding progress, success and any areas of concern. 4. Maintain positive and productive relationships with outside vendors, including leveraging/negotiating favorable arrangements for Frost and Bing whenever possible. Participate in promoting general awareness and favorable impressions of our venues among staff, vendors, and external constituents. 5. Approval of all technical stage set-ups for Frost including Audio array locations, lighting hang, video screens and camera locations, spot light locations, mixing board locations. 6. Overall quality control of Frost productions 7. Develop and update Frost Technical/Production log creating event summaries, logging in exact production timetables and managing a database archiving technical and stage plots for future reference. 8. Perform or assist with equipment maintenance and inventory activities, as assigned. 9. Provide and assemble equipment for events including electrical, lighting, sound, staging, and video equipment. 10. Effectively communicate with supervisors, staff, and venue users to ensure the most professional event possible. 11. When appropriate serve lead audio engineer on events and projects, and facilitate the experience of guest engineers or artist crews. Perform or oversee live sound, video, webcast/broadcast mixing, and archival/recording operations as needed for each assigned event at Bing Concert Hall. 12. For events at Bing Concert Hall, this position may serve from time to time as light board programmer and/or operator; stage manager; as well as assist with the load-in of staging, implementation of overhead rigging, lighting, backline, video, and audio as required. 13. At times, coordinates over-hire labor to support varied technical functions when production requirements dictate.
