Departmental Overview In IEOR, we invent, analyze and teach tools and approaches for design, analysis, risk management, and decision-making in complex real-world systems like supply chains, energy systems, healthcare systems, and financial systems.
Within IEOR's Sutardja Center this Program Director position is being added to more thoroughly and independently manage and expand the impact of the Labs, Custom Partner Programs and Professional Programs. As the Center has grown in scope, this position must be created to more adequately meet the Center's needs and goals, as well as the specific needs of alumni, students and global partners. The Programs and Labs under this position are integral to our mission and represent over $1.5M in revenue to the Center and College in 2019 and will likely surpass $2M in 2020.
Responsibilities within this position include acting as campus expert in directing and executing, and often initiating executive programs (custom and standard programs focused on technical entrepreneurship and innovation) and select student run programs for the Sutardja Center. This includes seeking ways to expand each program to provide greater revenue and value for the Center and Berkeley Engineering. This position sets strategy and plans all aspects of programming and speaker identification and coordination for executive programs, hires interns, coordinates with Berkeley Engineering Executive Education for enrollment and payments leads all communication efforts to professional enrollees and partners, and attends the majority of all executive program sessions to ensure execution consistent with UC Berkeley standards and quality. Additionally, this position is responsible for co-managing the Center's Labs, the execution of a number of the Center's partner programs with NTU and SVIL and supporting Labs activities, especially as those activities relate to sponsorship by corporate, VC and industry partners. The position is also tasked with expanding SCET instructor and student run seminar courses/decals to optimize unique learning for graduate and undergraduates interested in entrepreneurship.
Responsibilities 60% Using institutional knowledge and awareness of constituency perception, designs, develops and implements short and long-term strategic plans, programs, events, and activities. This position is responsible for leading initiatives that connect the Sutardja Center and its campus affiliates with global industry and academic leaders in tech innovation. Through management of SCET's executive education programs, labs and accelerators, this position promotes SCET and Berkeley's newest achievements in tech innovation and inclusion, through program design, executive curriculum integration, and development of strategic partnerships.
This position is responsible for long-term planning, design, and implementation of two existing and new custom executive education programs that provide revenue in excess of $1M to the College of Engineering and Sutardja Center. In addition, this position now includes long-term planning and implementation of Sutardja Center's lab activities including designing communication strategic plans to promote lab achievements and curating relationships with external and internal partners that potentially represent an additional $1M+ in revenue to the College and Center.
20% May oversee all aspects of complex external relations programs, projects and events, including coordinating special programs and overseeing production of audio/visual or written and visual materials. This position is responsible for identifying and collaborating with external partners in industry and academia and internal partners (e.g. Chancellor's Office, colleges and research institutes) for executive education, lab and accelerator activities for the Sutardja Center. This position works with the Sutardja Center's Chief Marketing Officer to develop targeted communication materials for key stakeholders related to executive education, labs and accelerators.
10% Quickly and appropriately identifies, addresses, and mitigates unforeseen and/or rapidly unfolding events that may negatively impact relationships between the campus and various constituencies, keeping senior management appropriately advised and notified. Responds to constituent inquiries. This position is responsible for ensuring new initiatives by the Labs, student-run courses and Executive Programs are consistent with the goals of the Center, the College and UC Berkeley and effectively communicating these goals with internal and external constituents.
10% May mentor less experienced staff members. This position works closely with several student interns and Center staff throughout the year on the Programs and Labs, providing guidance and coaching when needed.

*The salary range designated for this position: $93,000 - $100,000; however, starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
