The Assistant Director of Web Services provides strategic oversight of all web services provided by UMKC's division of Strategic Marketing and Communications (MCOM). This position sets the vision and standards for the university's overall web presence, working closely with campus partners to ensure the website is following best practices and providing a usable and accessible experience for all web visitors.
Essential job duties and responsibilities:
Oversee the development of web projects, including websites and email, to ensure high standards and timely delivery;
Supervise and provide guidance for MCOM's web team, including front-end developers, web coordinators and a web content strategist;
Monitor emerging technologies and best practices and recommend changes to digital policies and guidelines in cooperation with Information Services and campus leadership;
Identify technology needs for the university and work with Information Services to find solutions;
Direct the implementation of UMKC's content management system, Cascade Server;
Monitor analytics collection for the website and provide reports for web products and services;
Manage charge back model for web services and use revenue stream to budget for technology upgrades and expenses.
Serve as the subject matter expert on web best practices.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners in IT and on the other campuses in the university system.
Ensure legal compliance on website accessibility and privacy in analytics collection.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Successful candidates will be collaborative leaders who can adapt to a changing environment and approach process and budget challenges with innovative thinking.
5+ years experience in front-end development or a related field desired.
Experience developing or managing websites in Wordpress desirable; experience with Cascade Server is highly desirable
Understanding of Google Analytics and Tag Manager and how to interpret website analytics in order to make recommendations for changes and updates to the web.
Knowledge of SEO best practices.
Familiarity with developing reports, writing guidelines, learning software quickly and providing instruction and training documentation to users.
Experience working in a marketing and/or communications environment, and particularly in a university setting would be a plus.
Advanced communication, organization, and project management skills
Experience presenting on technical topics to clients or non-technical audiences.

Starting salary range is $47,476 to $65,468, and will be commensurate with experience and education.
