The college is looking for a part-time Event Assistant to join the office of Student Life and Leadership. The Event Assistant for the Office of Student Life and Leadership is a paid internship opportunity, working directly with professional and student staff to support programming for over 8,000 students in an urban community college. This position will assist in the planning, implementing, promoting, and staffing student programs/events at both campuses. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in creating marketing material. Hours include weekday office hours, with some evening and weekend hours and the opportunity to oversee off-campus trips.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Event Assistant will be responsible for working independently or collaboratively with other staff members in planning, promoting, implementing, attending and facilitating on-campus and off-campus programming, including leadership development and community service opportunities.
Perform administrative support duties, not limited to and including, answering office phones, providing exceptional in-person customer service, and data entry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of various computer programs, i.e. MS Office, Outlook, Adobe, etc.
Knowledge of various marketing and advertising outlets, especially social media
Previous experience planning/facilitating large- and small-scale events and/or working with vendors preferable
Be able to multitask
Organized and detail oriented
Have good written and verbal communication skills
Strong Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team atmosphere
Bachelor's Degree, or Associate's Degree plus 2 years with related experience
Ability to work up to 24 hours/week, with flexibility, which may include nights and weekends, and at both our Jersey City and Union City campuses
Position subject to background check
Basic or advanced knowledge of the Spanish language
Previous Experience in Student Life/Leadership Development
Enrollment in a Higher Education/Counseling/Other Relatable field MA program
Experience in leading programs or leadership/skill-building workshops
Graphic design and social media management
