The Network Engineer has primary responsibility of managing the health of the University campus network and some project management, including leading smaller lifecycle upgrades or supporting larger engineering/architecture projects. Other responsibilities include monitoring the network for performance issues, proactively recommending preventive maintenance, documentation and all other level II troubleshooting and support.
Must be able to clearly articulate technical matters to non-technical customers. Participates in 24x7x365 on-call rotation. Some off-hours work will be required as needed and other duties as assigned. Position reports to the Manager of Campus Network Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Triage ticket support 20%
Customer Service support (Phone, email, in-person, ticketing) 20%
Incident and Change Management support 50%
Project management 10%

Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary
Technical degree preferred or at least 3 years' experience in network engineering arena
Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools
Solid background in network administration
Understanding of communication protocols and network operating systems
Proven problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and quality-focused customer service orientation
Good technical writing skills and strong interpersonal communications skills
Experience working on small to medium network projects
Hands-on experience with some of the following: OSI model, switching & routing technologies, Aruba/HP OS, ClearPass, Airwave wireless, Cisco IOS, FortiOS, Spanning Tree, OSPF, Wireshark packet analysis, DNS, & DHCP.
N+, CCENT, or CCNA certification or equivalent Aruba certification is a plus.
Familiarity with access control models and network security is a plus
