We currently have an opportunity for a Research Professional I in the Department of Pediatrics. This person will work on the NET-Works 2 at the U study, which is a project funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The goal of this study is to learn about what factors may put some children at risk to develop heart disease and diabetes later in life, and how to keep children’s hearts and bodies healthy as they grow up. This person will serve on a measurement team to recruit, retain and conduct measurements on up to 400 7-10 year olds and their family members. This position requires flexible day, evening hours and weekend hours (Saturdays only). Data collection training, including working with human subjects, will be provided and is required.
Responsibilities/Duties: The position will assist with all aspects of recruitment, retention and measurement implementation for the NET-Works 2 at the U study. Primary categories and responsibilities include:
Job Knowledge & Skills (75%) • Describe study components and consent participants into study, as well as conduct data collection & scheduling procedures according to protocol. • Implement data collection instruments and evaluation processes with children and adults in participant homes and within a clinic setting. These include, but are not limited to: - Perform anthropometric & body composition measures - Verbally administer a survey in a computerized database - Conduct measures of Executive Functioning, Academic Achievement, and physical activity. - Administer all data collection measures with precision and adhere closely to study protocol - Document research procedures with a meticulous level of detail, both on paper and electronically. • Coordinate with clinic staff (e.g., phlebotomy, vascular lab, nursing) and schedule to successfully perform measures at clinic site. • Translation of study documents. • Train undergraduate and graduate students in study procedures. • Coordinate scheduling of undergraduate and graduate students. • Assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and provide supervision to undergraduate and graduate students. • Monitor and document inventory of study samples in storage (e.g., hair samples, serum samples). • Assist study project manager with protocol development and updates.
Data Management (20%) • Enter data in accordance with study protocols and due dates. • Back up electronic data to study server. • Compile electronic data for monthly data transfers. • Calculate monthly study visit count and testing hours count and report to clinic. • Assist study project manager with reporting duties as assigned. • Stay abreast of software updates for various study systems. • Maintain continual protection of study data, keeping private information secure and confidential at all times.
Quality Assurance (5%) • Complete training and certification and participates in ongoing re-trainings as necessary. • Attend to all study protocol and procedure updates in a timely manner. • Perform monthly quality assurance and editing checks consistently. • Accept feedback openly, understanding it is done in an effort to standardize data across all participants and staff members.

BA/BS in related field of study OR a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
Experience in social sciences or public health field
Demonstrated ability to work on a team
Documented exposure to or experience working with families of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in a one-on-one or small group setting,
Fluent oral and written Spanish language skills,
Excellent attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills,
Documented experience showing ability to follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information,
Exemplary computer skills, including PC and Windows environment,
Excellent communication skills,
Strong data entry skills,
Experience in customer service.
Experience with REDCap and other database systems,
Ability to adhere to a research protocol, but also have sufficient flexibility and judgment to handle unforeseen situations that may arise.
