The Richard & Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center (BVAC) at Ringling College of Art and Design is a center for creativity and accommodates hands-on fabrication and art-making with facilities for glass, woodworking, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and digital fabrication. The BVAC Fabrication & EHS Technician coordinates the BVAC's fabrication operations and classroom fabrication areas, and works with the department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to create a safe campus environment.
The BVAC Fabrication & EHS Technician will need to have a broad knowledge of art and design practices, as well as specific knowledge of woodworking equipment and processes. The successful candidate will be able to assist and instruct students in the conceptualization and safe construction of projects. They will provide preventative and curative maintenance on tools and machinery, and will work with the Studio Manager and faculty members to maintain proper inventory and records.
This position will also conduct EHS inspections, safety checks and facility tests, manage the campus chemical inventory and will participate in audits and hazard assessments across campus. As part of the EHS responsibilities, the BVAC Fabrication & EHS Technician will serve as a member of the Campus EHS Committee and Sub-committee.
Bachelor's degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Extensive knowledge and experience using a wide variety of floor mounted and hand held power tools.
Enthusiasm for Digital Fabrication processes including CNC, 3D-Printing, Laser Cutting.
Basic familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD/CAM software and concepts.
Knowledge of OSHA and EPA laws.
Bachelor's degree with a concentration in art or design.
Supervisory, teaching, or instructional experience.
Experience in higher education.
Working knowledge of Digital Fabrication processes.
Working knowledge with 2D and 3D CAD/CAM software and concepts.
