The UC Office of the President is actively seeking a Senior Systems Lead/Supervisor to lead critical projects with enterprise-wide impact across all the campuses / medical centers and the Office of the President at all levels. We are looking for a strong self starter who is passionate about pushing optimization and enhancing performance across large and extremely complex system environments. You will posses excellent project management skills and the ability to manage and guide a diverse team of highly skilled individuals while managing competing priorities in a fast paced environment. The candidate will be able to apply expert level skills in all aspects of system administration and serve as a technical supervisor in managing and tuning large enterprise environments supporting thousand of users across hundreds of systems. Core responsibilities include developing and implementing enterprise standards, policies, and best practices to manage and support RHEL and Windows systems that support our large end-user population across multiple organizational units with high consequences of success or failure.

Under the direction of the Manager, Cloud Hosting Services, the Senior Cloud Services Tech Lead is a senior technical lead/supervisor of the Cloud Hosting Services work unit. The position will lead and establish technical and repeatable solutions to facilitate management of our PeopleSoft cloud services hosted at OMCS and AWS as well as managing and assigning daily work tasks and project deliverables for UCPath. As the technical lead and supervisor of the team, you will review our current processes and management tools and provide inputs and strategies to enhance or replace them with better options. This position requires expertise in configuring, implementing, supporting and administering infrastructure solutions hosted in cloud environments. The Senior Cloud Servcies Tech Lead/Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance of all of the hosted infrastructure services to our security and management standards. (patching, backups, configuration, etc).

Duty 1: Performs all complex technical support tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the UCPath hosted server environment to include system design, configuration, implementation, maintenance, modification and upgrading, either independently or as a member of a unit team.
Specifically, the position: Administers and supports the OMCS and AWS cloud based hosted services; Coordinates with OMCS to install, and deployment of systems as well as troubleshooting hosted infrastructure services.
Significantly contributes to the planning, implementation and evaluation of the deployment of automated server-based technologies to centrally managed computers using AWS native services and architectures.
Provides input to system initiatives, such as design modifications, and also provides recommendations to proposed policy updates and/or standard operating procedures related to or growing out of the development or regular upgrading of the Systems architecture in AWS.
Plans, coordinates and completes required assignments.
Provides technical assistance, and researches/offers practical solutions to a wide range of complex technical issues.
Provides specific technical support to the UCPath processes both for OMCS and AWS hosted environments. Function:Technical Support Percent: 40
Duty 2: Handles coordination with other UCOP departments and ITS groups (Network, Windows, Data Center, ServiceDesk , etc.) in assessing which technology solutions are appropriate to ensure full integration of cloud hosted systems in the larger UCPath computing environment at OMCS and AWS.
Develops and/or participates in the development of executive and peer-level presentations and briefings to propose, promote and inform others of proposed or upcoming changes, solutions, projects, and improvements. Function:Systems Coordination Percent: 20
Duty 3: Manages and coordinates daily operational assignments and project deliverables for other team members.
Recommends hiring of new employees, salary actions, terminations, and performance ratings. Function:Operations Percent: 20
Duty 4: Development of process and procedures Participates with other Cloud Hosting Engineering team members in developing processes and standard operating procedures for systems managed under OMCS.
Work closely with other team members to standardize processes and deployments (via scripting, group policy, etc.) including, network patch management, change management and change control for UCPath systems hosted at AWS. Function:General Support Percent: 20
Job Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Skills/Experience: At least eight (8) years experience administering, supporting, and implementing large scale server systems (Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and/or Amazon AMI).
At least 3 years supervising/managing and mentoring staff.
Highly developed interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
Expert experience and knowledge of Windows and Linux server implementation and integration at an enterprise level
Intermediate to Expert level experience with Puppet, Ansible, Perl/Python scripting, as well as CI/CD frameworks in AWS. Experience should include server design, support and implementation.
Excellent written communications skills, which demonstrate the ability to draft clear, concise specifications and documentation for the team as well as internal process documentation and end user FAQ's.
Ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
Experience with server and storage - setup, performance monitoring, maintenance and support ie. hardware issues, disk errors, etc with on premise and AWS hosted systems and services.
Demonstrated experience in a lead project role and with project management skills.
Demonstrated experience implementing and managing complex file transfer mechanisms, including use of SFTP, FTPS, and SSH.
Knowledge of enterprise workload automation/batch processing tools (e.g. BMC Control-M).
Experience supporting and troubleshooting in a production server, 24/7, change-managed, multi-platform environment and with cross-platform integration.
Demonstrated experience with AWS services and automation as well as VMware virtualization technologies and solutions.
Demonstrated ability to perform competently under pressure and handle interruptions and change without losing productivity.
Experience with determining how systems and technology should operate most efficiently and how changes to technology systems will affect outcomes, operations and business objectives.
Expert knowledge of computer security best practices and policies. Required
