A Senior Research Compliance Specialist provides programmatic support for the University’s research ethics and compliance programs.� This person implements and monitors research compliance review activities in accordance with the University’s policies, and federal and sponsoring agencies regulations, with minimal supervision; interprets applicable policies and regulations to resolve complex research and regulatory issues; provides expert advice and training to faculty, non-faculty, and committee members; interacts directly with external funding agencies and other academic institutions regarding the University’s adherence to policies and regulations; serves as lead person in the absence of a manager or director.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently supports all aspects of the University’s investigations of research misconduct and works directly with the faculty committees; develops detailed analysis of evidence and research records, drafts the Committee’s findings, and monitors the implementation of the final findings and actions; ensures all allegations and issues have been addressed in accordance with applicable policies, processes and regulations; drafts and coordinates communications with internal and external stakeholders
Independently supports all aspects of review of research involving human embryonic stem cell research and works directly with the faculty committee; reviews biomedical research studies for compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies and procedures; helps identify regulatory or ethical concerns that must be addressed in order to approve the research; communicates with investigators to facilitate the review process; documents the Committee’s determinations, coordinates communications with other compliance offices, and monitors for compliance
Supports other types of research compliance reviews, that may fall outside of the above programs, by evaluating complex scientific and regulatory issues to help assess compliance with the University’s research policies and processes; helps resolve and communicate outcome as appropriate; documents all reviews
Helps develop educational programs, other communication tools related to these activies; provides user support for the system that tracks education and compliance activities; compiles reports on departmental research compliance activities; responsible for content maintenance of websites
Assures proper procedures are maintained, regularly reviewed, and recommends revisions as necessary to assure compliance with University policies, federal and state regulations; assists with policy and process development.� Ensures the submission of the appropriate reports to federal, state, sponsor or regulatory agencies; prepares operational and statistical reports
Decisions and judgments have an impact on the university’s reputation and external compliance so significant judgment expertise is required; therefore, this position is required to stay abreast of applicable regulations, external environment, and University policies
Other duties and special projects as assigned; possible cross training in other areas
Bachelor's degree in a related field plus five years of related work experience, preferably in a research intensive university or hospital setting, or equivalent combination of experience and education
Demonstrated understanding of a research environment, and ability to interpret regulations, policy and legal documents
General familiarity with the scientific process
Master's degree in a related field
Demonstrated understanding of a clinical research environment
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks for multiple long and short term projects, manage confidential information
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Able to effectively accumulate and organize data for reporting
Effectively works with a variety of individuals at all levels of the organization

The hiring range for this position is $48,087 - $62,517 annually.
