The Research Associate II works closely with the Biobank Director and Associate Director in basic pathology, histology, and immunostaining tasks in the Biobank and Translational Research Core (BTRC). The RA III will also be responsible for interfacing with investigators at all stages of their requests for BTRC services. Will serve as the project manager for BTRC projects; understands the scope of the request, assigns tasks and tracks project progress. Has responsibility for interfacing with Research Facilities Operations (RFO) with respect to the SSB facilities including freezer/LN2 storage units.
Ensures that all equipment and storage units within the BTRC are operating optimally, are serviced regularly, that all monitoring systems are maintained, and that emergency contact lists are regularly updated. Techniques used will include, but are not limited to, tissue embedding, processing and sectioning, histological and IHC/IF/ISH staining. Biospecimens handled can be both fresh or fixed from both human and animal sources. Responsible for data generation, assay optimization and troubleshooting. Will be detail oriented, possess excellent communication skills and have extensive knowledge of histology and immunohistochemistry theory and techniques. Will also observe and comply with safety standards and procedures and assist in preparation of data for publication, grant applications and/or presentations at scholarly meetings.

Delivers regular seminars about BTRC services and instrumentation to the CSMC research community.
Works closely with the BTRC research pathologist in the design and execution of macro or microdissection experiments in the BTRC.
Works closely with the histology team to organize weekly slide reviews, and in the generation of reports and plans arising from slide review sessions.
