The Director of Annual Giving reports to the Vice President for University Advancement. With emphasis on gifts from individuals below $10,000, the Director is responsible for the management of the university's comprehensive annual giving efforts, with a focus on increasing the percentage of alumni participation, retention, reactivation and renewals of annual fund gifts. Plans, designs, organizes and manages all aspects of annual giving solicitations and stewardship (in alignment with the University's overall fundraising objectives), including but not limited to: direct mail/email appeals, phonathon, digital fundraising efforts, faculty/staff giving, and student and young alumni philanthropy. The Director works closely with development directors in all academic and constituent areas, alumni relations officers, academic leaders and other cross-campus partners to coordinate and increase annual support for Radford University.
The Director manages a pool of parent/family prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $1,000 or more annually. Partners with the Division of Student Affairs to develop and manage a parent/family philanthropy program; participate in events that engage and cultivate parents/families such as orientation, family weekend, and admitted student receptions.
The Director serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will participate in high-level conversations; strategic planning that affects the entire division, and exemplifies a strong level of professionalism, decision making ability, maturity and confidentiality.
Advanced degree or equivalent education, experience or training. Qualified candidates will have experience in development process – includes cultivation, solicitation, stewardship of all levels (ie: annual, major gifts), preferably in a university setting. The candidate will have demonstrated success in organizational and analytical thinking and strategic planning, and program implementation. The Director must possess strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to build, foster and maintain relationships with both internal and external constituencies including donors and prospects, alumni, faculty and staff, volunteer leaders, students, as well as board members. The individual must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to motivate volunteers, professional staff and donors. Applicants must possess a willingness to travel regionally and nationally for the purposes of conducting field research, cultivation, and solicitation.
Experience in higher education development and/or strong understanding of development process and comprehensive campaigns; experience in an academic environment is preferred. Supervisory experience is also preferred.
